Can Someone Call Jerry Springer?

OK, I paid a visit to my mother this afternoon. It was our normal, nice visit. We sat in her room watching Judge Hatchet. There was a case where a woman told her now grown daughter when she was 11 that the man she thought was her father probably wasn't.

As you can imagine that put quite a rift between the daughter and her "father". They began to distance themselves over the ensuing years.

Fast forward 15 years and their relationship was quite strained. Judge Hatchet ordered a DNA test because neither party was 100% sure of the paternity. The test was done and low and behold the man actually was the father!

My mother turns to me and says, "Myrna told Peter that Janet wasn't his daughter. She told Janet who her real father was."

The power of speech escaped me for a good 5 minutes. I just sat there trying to gather my thoughts and force my mouth to work. Some background, Peter is my uncle (my mother's brother) and Myrna is his now ex wife and Janet is their oldest daughter.

Janet is now 34 years old and this revelation was made 5 years ago when Myrna and Peter's divorce became final.

"Are you kidding me?" was all I muster up.

"I'm serious as a heart attack."

I responded, "I can't freaking believe this."

What would possess someone to knowingly lie about their child's paternity then spill the beans almost 30 years later?

This is some Jerry Springer shit.

Do you believe her?
Sure seems like she may have said that because she hates him.

I've made up my mind....She's Lying!

I can't believe the cruelty in the world and it all seems to be aimed towards children and animals...poor Janet...where once she had an extended family, that's been taken from her...too cruel.

You sure are right about this belonging on Jerry Springer or maybe even Maury Povitch (is he still doing his show?) But to tell someone that, devastate them, then have the DNA test done which shows that the daughter really is his daughter -not someone else's -so much psychological upheaval and for nothing. What was gained? What did the mother think could be gained by telling this tale in the first place. Yep, craziness, I say, just plain mean crazy!

Someone else already mentioned it, but do you think she was lying just because they were getting divorced? I've seen people do some amazingly hateful crap to one another because of a divorce.

Wow! She must've found the Lord or something, 'cause after all that....I would've had to pray about opening my trap about that.

It makes me sick, how people could do that. I don't know what more I could say.

What a malicious act of desperation... it's too hurtful to be true hopefully.

oh wow that is crazy.. i honestly believe that is selfish of her to tell him that 30 years later it was not neccessary, it is not like the daughter have a life threatning disease or something and neeed blood.

Wish someone would come and tell me my mother ain't my mother.

Would explain A LOT.

Too bad I look just like her.

Your family situation is seriously messed up. That is INSANE!

im sorry as a man i really take offense to that.if she decided to lie about that thats one thing, then letting him know all the sacrifice he went through to raise and provide for a kid that wasnt his and she cheated on him? it would have been oj part II if that was me

I wonder how the daughter reacted? I mean, how DO you react to something like that? Wow.

I'm for always telling the truth in the first place. The only time lying is something to do is maybe when you tell a kid about Santa Claus or when you're planning a surprise party. But after you've lied about a thing for more than 30years there was no point in bringing it up like that except to hurt someone.

I once met someone who ended up on Jerry Springer or one of those shows. I'll have to blog about that sometime.

And to Shorty, it wasn't a man who had the baby, it was just a transexual who kept her female reproductive system. Not near as exciting as a man having a baby.

If Myrna had one tiny thought for Janet, she would never have done that to her. That sucks. And how does Jerry Springer find his nutters anyway?

That is not even nice! Sounds spiteful!

Just NOT COOL, to deceive in the first place, then to spill the beans knowing it will hurt, HELL, even spilling it with the express intention of hurting... that's cold.

WOW...now that's some stuff....

As for where Jerry Springer finds this crazy people, they're everywhere!
I have a friend who told me this: all that's happening to me seems like a Jerry Springer's show... and oh boy, was it juicy and to be put on TV!
It just hurtful what she did, but as the others said may be it was out of desperation or revenge. Who knows...

I was listening to Michael Baisden a few weeks ago. The first hour he had men call in who had been lied to and told they were the father of a child. The second hour featured children talking about how their mother lied to them about their fathers and how it messed them up. The third hour he asked for women who had knowingly lied about their child's paternity to call in. No one did. There really is no excuse for that kind of deception.

Eh.... chalk it up to drama, drama, drama.

Some people are wired up all wrong and have the constant need to say and do things to create drama or be the center of attention.

There are several of those in my family and my husband's family is full of them.

It's sad, but true.
