Day 24 - Prepping For The Change

This week has been really crazy for me. I flew into Atlanta on Sunday to search for an apartment to live in. Each night I compiled a list of places to visit, the next day I visited those places then come back to the hotel and compile a new list and go out the next day and repeat the cycle until yesterday.

This trip started of really rocky and had me questioning whether this was the right move. A coworker offered to drive me to the airport on Sunday and pick me up on Thursday night. I felt uneasy about that but I relented and agreed to let her take me. She called me the morning of and told me she was on her way. I was like cool, I still had about 15 mins. Why did this heifer call me back in 6 mins and said "I'm out front." What! I was not quite ready so I RUSHED to finish and run outside and forgot my cellphone! I don't think you heard me..I FORGOT MY CELLPHONE!!! I had a mini melt down. That phone had all the numbers and addresses and reminders that I needed. I don't know anyone's number by heart. How was I going to manage not being able to communicate with people for a week? Then I realized I had my spare phone that I use for my Atlanta job search. It had most of the numbers of the people I would need so I'd be able to function at least. Cool. I still felt out of sorts but it was at least bearable. I get to the hotel and reached in my bag to pull out my charger because I specifically put it on the bed at home so that I could pack it so I knew it was in the bag. Uh, no. I pulled out everything in my bag and there was no charger. I had the car and house charger for my blackberry...that I left home...but not for the palm...that I had with me. I was also in a panic at the airport because I was supposed to use my blackberry's GPS to get around while I was in Atlanta. How the hell was I supposed to get to all the apartments I was supposed to visit? When I got to the rental car counter I asked the woman for a car with a GPS. At first she said she didn't have one. I panicked. How was I going to get to the hotel much less all my apartments. I almost had a melt down right there but she finally found a car. This cost me an extra $110. Shear joy. The next day I find a mall to purchase a charger for my phone and they didn't have one because this spare phone is so old. Again, I almost had a melt down as I had no charge left on my phone and I still had 4 days in Atlanta. The store clerk told me of another mall that might have one. I get there and that store didn't have one either. OK I was really started to freak out. Like what was the universe trying to tell me about this trip, more importantly, this move? I walked out of the store and walk a few feet and BAM! I spotted a cell phone accessory kiosk! OK, They have got to have a charger. I go up to the clerk and lo and behold, she had a charger!! Yes! I make my purchase and head to the car to begin my apartment search.

The trip got better and I ultimately did settle on an apartment in Lithonia. I was debating between Lithonia and Duluth. I applied and the leasing agent just texted me that the app was approved so that is a done deal.

I head to the airport last night to make it home, sat in the airport for 4 hours due to delays then they finally canceled the flight at 11:30pm. UGH! They herded us to the customer service desk to rebook us for this morning and give us hotel vouchers. I get to the hotel at 12:30 and had to get up at 4:30am to make it the airport in time for my flight to Newark NJ then a four hour layover before reaching home 2:13 this afternoon. This has become the trip from hell!!!!

I had planned on sleeping in late this morning then shopping later, instead I am stuck in the airport, again, today. Damn!

Day 23 - Busy, Busy Busy

Hey guys, today's post will be very short and sweet. I have ALOT on my plate today so I don't have time to do a regular post.

I am off work tomorrow so I will do a nice post explaining all that has been going on this week. Whew.

I trust everyone is doing well.

Day 22 - Something Is Wrong With You

Hello Bloghearts,

I hope those in the Northeast are digging out of their blizzard and able to move around. I feel so neglectful because I haven't had a chance to stop by your spots recently but trust me I will within the next couple of days.

I was visiting with family the other day and found out something very interesting. I think my cousin maybe be a little socially "off". This dude is 40 years old, lives with his parents, works at Baby's R Us as a sales associate and does not own a car. His parents gave him a car and took it away when he was caught "abusing" his driving privileges by having others drive his car so now his mom has to pick him up from work. Did I mention he is a 40 year old man!? Wow!

I am at a lost for words. I don't know any 40 year old man that lives with his parents and have them controlling his driving. Clearly there is something seriously wrong with dude.

Take care all and I will be by and visit your blogs as soon as I can. I've been on a mission the last few days that I will explain it all to you on Friday.

Smooches!!

Day 21 - Expiration Dates

How much attention do you pay to expiration dates on your food? I ran across people that really don't pay much attention. They are very loose when it comes to those dates and they ink out several more days before they dispose of the food in question.

Me? I am ANAL about expiration dates. I stalk my eggs and milk relentlessly making sure I don't ingest those items after that all important date inked on the carton. I'm no fool. If any item is in my refrigerator past its date I act like I am with the CDC coming in contact with hazardous materials. I put on my mask, my goggles, my hazmat suite and gloves to dispose of the offending item.

Yeah, I'm a freak like that.

Day 20 - What Should I Call You?

When I was young and dating we gave titles to our position in the relationship as we grew closer. We were either girlfriend or boyfriend. We were all proud to be called someones girlfriend or boyfriend. That let the world know we were together and off the market.

As I've gotten older though, I've had a change of heart regarding that term "boyfriend" or "girlfriend". I feel that I am a little too old to refer to a grown ass man as my boyfriend. But with this revelation comes a new dilemma, what DO I call the new guy in my life? Once I get one that is. We'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

When I was dating The Analyst I once referred to him as "my friend" to someone I was speaking to and he hit the roof. "I'm NOT your friend! I'm your boyfriend!" I knew that but it kinda sounds juvenile coming from a grown ass woman.

If "friend" is not appropriate and "boyfriend" doesn't feel right then what in the clam bake am I supposed to say? "Manfriend" doesn't sound right either. I mean it's cute and quirky in familiar company but if you are at a social event, say for work perhaps, then introducing him as "This is Jim, my manfriend" is a no no.

What do you call your significant other? What do you say to let others know you two are an item without sounding as if you are on your way to your locker to get your Chemistry book before the class bell rings? This is actually a slight issue for a few folks.

Day 19 - It's a Wrap

Hey all,

I trust that everyone had a great Christmas. Mine was pretty good actually. I'm just glad it's over.

I'm on travel at the moment and guess what? I left my damn cell phone at home. I feel so lost. I will be away from home for 5 days without my cell phone. I do have a cell phone with me that I use in my GA job search but it doesn't have all my "stuff" that I need so I feel lost. I'm not sure how I'm gonna make it this week people.

Pray for me.

Day 18 -Merry Christmas

Since everyone is busy with family and friends I will keep this post simple and just wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

I hope Santa brings you exactly what you want this year.

Day 17 - Ask Tee

Hi Everyone,

I know it's been like forever since I've done an Ask Tee segment so I thought it was about time. Here goes:

Dear Tee,

I am a mother of a very strong willed 13 year old. He doesn't listen to me at all. I'll tell him to do something like take out the trash or clean his room or turn off the TV and he just ignores me as if I am not even standing there.

I try handing down punishments because I know that's what I need to do but I feel so bad that I give in to him and rescind the punishment.

What can I do to get this kid to listen to me?

Signed,
Terry

Dear Terry,

This is not an unusual complaint from parents. The problem here is that you don't follow through when doling out the punishment so he sees you as a push over. He doesn't see any consequence so he will not change his behavior.

What you need to do is grow a pair and hand out stiff punishments and stick with it. Let him know there are severe consequences if he defies you. If a child realizes that there are no consequences to his bad behavior he has no reason to stop. Be strict and follow through. He'll get the message. It's called tough love for a reason.

Good luck!

Tee

If you have any questions you'd like the blogging family to give their opinion on just send me an email to asktee@hotmail.com.

Day 16 - My New Favorite Thing Ever!

You guys might think I'm a freak for revealing this but I've wanted a pink fuzzy pen for months! I went to like 3 or 4 stores looking for one but to no avail.

This weekend I went into Walgreens to pick up some crap when I noticed by the check out counter....

Yes!!! Exactly the type of pen I was looking for! So you know I had to get one. Then I decided I needed two so I picked up another and purchased two pens. I love them. I have one for my desk at work and one for my purse. SCORE! When I got in the car I noticed that the clerk actually put another one in my bag so I ended up with 3 of these little babies!!! I would have taken the third one back but it was only $2 so I said screw it.

When I got home, upon further inspection I noticed two things. One, this pen is in support of breast cancer. See the plastic ribbon on the top? Secondly, the ribbon lights up!

SCORE!!

Yeah I'm a geek, whatevs.

Day 15 - What Do You Want Your Legacy To Be?

Whew! We are half way through. This month long blogging sure does go by fast. Today I am supposed to determine what I want my legacy to be.

I never actually thought of it before and this challenge has forced me to face this and I am grateful for that actually so that I can sort of check myself.

I would love to leave a legacy of goodness and generosity. I try to treat others as I would like to be treated and I try to help people as best I can without putting myself or family in jeopardy or feel as if I am being used.

I want to be viewed as being the best friend as I can be. I'm sure some would disagree but I never said I was perfect. I try my best to be the best me I can at all times.

I would love to develop a children's charity at some point to help these kids be their very best. I want to work on that in the next year or two.

I just want there to be something between my dash besides dates.

Day 14 - Do You Have Any Regrets

So here we are on Day 14 and I am supposed to detail any regrets that I have. I can't imagine anyone who has lived, and I mean really lived, that doesn't have a regret or two at some point in their life. I do have a few and here they are:

Greg, James, James, James, Van, Maurice, Martin, Marcus, Neal, Jerel, Mark, Johnny, Stanley, Rob and Robert.

The end.

Day 13 - Dear Me

Dear Me,

I am you in several decades and I am writing to you from the future. I know you are only 16 years old right now but when you read this know that I am writing this to field off alot of mistakes you are going to make as you grow up.

You crush alot on really cute boys. When you get 18 you are going to start having sex with some of them. Take it from me, hold off. There is no need to have sex so soon. You will like Prince 2.0 when you meet him in a couple of years but he is not worth you giving him your virginity. Hold off. Also, there are a bunch of guys that you will meet that you will want to sleep with...DON'T. You'll thank me later. You will appreciate the ones you do have sex with when you are older alot more.

Make sure you love your parents more and show them more respect then you do because, trust me, when you grow up to be me they are not around and you will miss them with every fiber of your being and wish you had more time with them to show them you loved them more so please be a better daughter.

Spend as much time with your grandparents as you can and really appreciate them. Soak up their knowledge because when you are me you will regret and be sad that all that wisdom is now gone.

Make sure you get involved with extra curricular activities so that you can develop some really serious interests in things. When you get to be me if you don't you will regret it because you'll find that you don't have a real interest in any one thing in particular.

When you meet Morris next year do not, and I repeat, do not write him that letter you will be tempted to write. Trust me on that.

When you meet your future husband, The Douche, please walk right past him. Do not marry this idiot. You'll be glad you didn't.

When you meet Mr. NC, hold on to him for dear life.

You are going to take a liking to fashion and makeup, pursue this in the next couple of years. Seriously.

I hope I help you be a better you when you are me. Take care of yourself now so that I don't suffer later.

Love you.

Day 9 - My Most Favoritest Video Game Ever!

I love video games. When I was a kid the corner stores used to have video games in their lobby and we kids would play, Donkey Kong, Space Invaders and my personal favorite, Galaga. The games were only a quarter and we'd spend hours playing. Of course my father thought that was a total waste of time and money. Parents are so lame and just don't have a clue.

One year my parents bought my siblings and me our very own video game console. Oh we were the happiest kids in the whole neighborhood that year. They bought us an Atari 2600! Yeah baby! We were the envy of the whole block. My favorite game then was Pong. I'd spend hours trying to keep that little ball volleying back and forth between those two sticks.

It was all good until that heifer next door got the Atari 5200. I hate show offs.

Day 8 - Who Was Your Arch Enemy in School?

Oh I remember my arch enemy very well. Her name was Lisa and we were 10 years old and in the 5th grade together. I couldn't stand that girl. She made my life hell. She thought she was better then me and all I wanted to do was punch her in the face but I wasn't the violent type.

One day she decided she wanted to pick a fight with me. All day she kept saying little rude and nasty things and I just ignored her. I had on a dress that day and I was being a lady.

When school was out and I was walking to the car to go home she and her little groupies followed me all the way through the school yard to where the smaller kids were where I was to meet my little sister. She was still yammering in my ear and all I kept thinking was that I was wearing a dress and I didn't want to fight her at that moment but I was truly tempted.

The year before I fought a girl by the name of Olivia Logan and whupped her ass. Lisa's little cronies began saying to her that maybe she should leave me alone because I did beat up Olivia. I think she came to her senses because she did eventually back off.

The next day at school I made sure I wore pants so that I could kick Lisa's ass but she never said anything to me. She didn't so much as glance in my direction that whole day. I was a little disappointed though because I actually wanted to fight her. Yeah, I was a feisty little 10 year old.
Lisa, if you are reading this now I am wearing pants today. What's up?

Day #7 - Describe Your Most Vivid Halloween Memory

I know, I know, it's not Halloween time but that doesn't mean we can't still discuss it, right?

I remember one such Halloween when my older cousin and my aunt took us Trick or Treating. Oh we kids were excited. We put on our scariest costumes and ventured out into the neighborhood in search of our treats. This was back when kids would Trick or Treat in the dark at night. Oh how times have changed.

So we were only half finished our little adventure when things suddenly took a turn for the worst.

We were walking down the street where I lived and found ourselves ironically in front of my house. We had started from my grandmothers house which was about four blocks away.

As we were approaching my house with the intent on continuing on as we weren't yet finished begging for candy, when we heard a rather loud "Pop pop!" We turned in the direction of this noise and saw two dudes slinging it out as if they were in a bad western movie. They were waving their guns and firing them when they thought they had a clear shot. We immediately dashed behind a bush in front of my house for cover. I remember never being as terrified as I was that night. The gun battle went of for another 5 minutes or so. Once it was over my cousin and aunt gathered all us kids up and we cut our Trick or Treating short right then and there and made a hasty retreat back to my grandmothers house to wait for my parents to come pick us up.
Needless to say that was the last time I'd gone Trick or Treating.

Day 6 - Where Was Your First Kiss?

OK, so today we will discuss first kisses. I remember my first kiss so very vividly. I was 11 years old and had a huge crush on the neighborhood bad boy named Dwayne. Oh I loved him madly so you can guess my excitement when he asked me to be his girlfriend. Hellz yeah! It lasted all but a week but I didn't care.

We found this huge box somewhere in the neighborhood and somehow it found it's way to my front yard. Dwayne and I slipped into this box for a little privacy and so did my little sister and her boyfriend. This is where we all decided to share our first kiss together. Dwayne leaned in to kiss me and I kissed him back. It's funny because I swear I saw fireworks and felt grenades go off and the earth moved. It was crazy. That was it, I was hooked on kissing from then on.

Somehow my father found out about my little adventure and was none too happy about it. He insisted I was too young to be "courting". I was like "huh?" My mom stepped in and said, "She doesn't know what courting means." and he left it alone at that point but I certainly did know what it meant and I was hooked.

Day 5 - My Blog Name

So today I am supposed to explain how I came up with my blog's name.

It's pretty simple actually. When I started this blog it was with the intent of just jotting down random thoughts and experiences. Whatever came to mind, just life's happenings. So I came up with the name The Diva's Random Thoughts.

How did you come up with your blog name?

Saturday, December 11, 2010

Day 4 - PC or MAC?

Today's post is asking if you are a PC or MAC person? I have never used a MAC before. I am a completel PC person. I love PC's. MAC's are too confusing to me.

Are you a MAC person or PC?

Friday, December 10, 2010

Day 3 - New Years Resolutions

It's almost that time of year, time when we make resolutions. We resolute to lose weight, exercise more, eat healthier, become a better person, etc.

We'll I'm here to tell you that I like my unhealthy eating, non-exercising, evil, fat ass just the way I am so I will not be making any New Years resolutions this year.

Oh, I've tried the whole resolution thing before and by January 5th that shit was out the door. Who am I kidding, there was no chance in hell I was going to keep those promises. So here I am, take me or leave me just the way my lovable ass is.

How many of you make resolutions and are you better at keeping them then I am?

Day 2 - Roommates from Hell

So here is day 2 of my 30 day blog challenge. I'm sure many of you reading this have had roommates in the past or maybe currently in a roommate situation. Some of you may even have really great roommates and you guys get along well. Well screw you all because my situation was hell and I am jealous.

Many years ago, right after the civil war, I became really friendly with a group of male and female exotic dancers. It was a fun time in my life. We would hang out and club every night of the week. Aaaawwww, to be young and free.

A couple of my female friends in this circle and I decided to rent an apartment together. YES! This would be non stop fun for me. I was psyched. We began our search and found a really cute townhouse to rent. We made preparations to move in. The day of our move in should have given me a clue as to how this whole situation was going to go down.

I had scheduled my brother and cousin to move my stuff in while I was at work. When I got to the apartment they hadn't finished my move because my roommates had them move a few of their stuff too. Excuse me! You were supposed to secure your own movers. I was heated but let it go.

I was the only one living there that owned a car and it was fast becoming evident to me that these bitches were expecting me to haul them everywhere they needed to go and would get upset if I had other plans.

The final straw came when I had a job interview scheduled. The day before I needed to prep for it, print out resumes, etc. So I decided to go to my parents house since they had a typewriter. Shush! I told my roommates I was leaving and they got upset because I wasn't going to be back in time to take them to the club they wanted to attend that night. yeah, exactly. I was ticked off that they thought hanging out in a club was more important then my landing this job. I was not their chauffeur. I decided I needed a break from them and stayed the night at my parents house.

When I arrived home the next day to get ready for work I noticed that they cleaned up the house but left my bed unmade and piled some dirty clothes on top of it. That was the last straw. I called my parents when I got to work, first thing, and arranged for them to help me move.

I found out later that day as well that some friends had called the house looking for me and they were rude to them Oh no, that does not work for me.

I met my father at his shop that he owned once I got off work. My mother, her friend, my brother and cousin all met at my fathers shop and we caravaned over to my house and started hauling shit out of there. The looks on their faces was priceless.

Unbeknownest to them I had also scheduled to have the phone cut off because it was in my name and I didn't want them to run up the bill. You had to pay for long distance calls in those olden days. They were none to happy about that. They called me the next day when they realized the phone was off to inquire why I hadn't told them of my plans. *click*

That was my first and last roommate situation Never again.

Do you have roommate horror stories?

Day 1 - When Someone Asks For Your Opinion Are You Always Honest?

Hi Bloghearts! Today marks the first day of my 30 Day Blog Challenge. I had such a ball doing it before that I decided to do it again. So today's topic is giving your opinion. When doing so are you always honest with the person that asked you?

For me it depends on the person asking. If its a relative or friend I am very honest. Not brutally but with tact. If someone asks me about their significant other I am very honest on what I think. If they ask me about an outfit they are planning on wearing I am very honest.

Let me give you an example of such an incident. Crazy, Clueless and I were in my car driving to a function we were attending. Clueless asks me what I think on the recent research that wearing bras can contribute to breast cancer. I told her that I think it's disgusting to go braless. It's tasteless to go around flopping in the wind and that little research wasn't enough to make me change my mind. Crazy pipes up from the back seat and says, "Well I think if it saves lives I'm not wearing a bra any more." I said," Eeeeiiiiwwwww! That's disgusting. I can never see just having the girls flopping every which way." She said, "There are cultures that don't believe in wearing bras." I said, "We are not there. We are in America and in America we wear bras." She got really quiet, I guess because she was mad that I didn't agree with her. I'm not the type of person that jumps on the bandwagon of every crazy research or fad. Come on now.

Another friend of mine told me what she was planning on naming her son when he was born and I immediately said, "Eeeiiiwwww! Are you serious? That is a horrible name." If you don't want the truth don't ask me.

On the other hand, if we are talking about clients or my bosses, then I might not be as honest as previously mentioned. That might not be in my best interest.

Are you always honest with people when giving them your opinion?

Randomness and What's Coming in the Future.

I am so not myself today. After a crushing defeat my Ravens experienced at the hands of the Squealers, I mean Steelers last night I just can't function today.

I'm not sure I can get over this loss. I"m glad it wasn't a beat down or a slaughter. It was a respectable 10-13 loss but still. It doesn't lessen the pain any. Oh well.....hold on....give me a minute.

In other news I've mapped out my timeline and plan for my move to Atlanta! I am so excited about this. It feels real now and I can't wait. I just put in for a few days off so that I can fly down there and check out a few more apartments and line up some interviews with a few head hunters. Wish me luck. I'll keep you all posted on everything.

I had so much fun with my 30 Day Blog Challenge that I am going to do it again!!!! I really did have a blast! Starting Thursday I will, again, blog for 30 straight days.

If you want to join in on the fun please feel free. All you have to do is post on your blog and link back to my blog in your post so that everyone knows you are participating. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

I would post specific topics for specific days you can blog about but I may veer off those topics if something exciting or interesting happens.

My Newest Addiction/Guilty Pleasure

I am a reality TV junkie. I love reality TV. Good, bad, trashy, I don't care, I love reality TV. One such show I've found that I love is Jerseylicious. Don't judge me. I love that show!

It's not because I was born in Jersey because if that was the case I'd like Jersey Shore and I hate that show. I'm all about fashion, hair and makeup and this show is right up my alley. It focuses more on fighting and drama then fashion, hair and makeup but whatevs.

I love the unmitigated hate because Olivia and Tracy. Alexa gets on my nerves and I am so glad Gayle is about to fire her ass.

I love Frankie and Gigi together. They are too cute. Why is Anthony managing the Gatsby when he has his own shop to run? That is beyond me.

Am I the only one that watches this show? OK, I'll leave now.

I Finally Figured It Out

Ok folks. I finally figured out why I don't have a man.

I was in the employee break room yesterday morning getting coffee so that I could curb my hunger until lunch time when I noticed my crush was already in there. It seems that every morning I go in there he is there. Anyway, I give him a very nonchalant, "Morning". Very cool. Never give 'em too much.

I was dumping my 15th package of sugar in my mug when I turned around to deposit it into the trash can then IT happened. I tripped over my feet!! There was nothing on the ground! I stumbled on nothing! I did what any self respecting clutz would do, I looked down to see what I may have tripped over. Smooth.

Yeah people, I'm smooth.

It's Clearer Now

Today is my last day of vacation and it sucks. I've been off for the last six days and I have been having a ball with this free time. I could really get used to a life of luxury. With that said tomorrow I return to the land of the employed.

Usually after a vacation I'm ready to get back to work but not this time. I'm enjoying getting up at noon and staying in my PJ's all day. Eating all day. Yeah, this is the life.

I've been eating McDonald's, ice cream, pies, pasta, all kinds of goodies. Wait a minute....let's think about this for a minute. Since I've been home I've been eating like I've lost my mind. Maybe I do need to get my butt back to work and quick.

Dating 2 or More People is Tough! I Don't Know How Men Do It.

OK, so I am not dating two or more guys currently and I don't advocate doing so by any means. Hell, I'm not even dating one but that's not to say I didn't partake in such behavior in my youth. That's what you are supposed to do when you are young, hang out and party and date your ass off. Right? Don't judge me!

I remember in ancient times when I was in my mid 20's and I was dating a guy I'll call Prince 2.0 and this other gentleman I'll call Crispy. They both knew each other existed but neither knew I was involved with the other. This was a second go round for Prince 2.0 and I as we dated when I was 18 years old. He was my first boyfriend and the guy that I lost my virginity too. That was an experience and a half which I will tell you about some other time. Anyway, Prince 2.0 and I found each other again years after our breakup and decided to give it another shot. I was too much of a wuss to tell Crispy that I was getting involved with Prince 2.0 again so I thought it best to date them both until I sorted this whole thing out.

One evening Prince 2.0 decided he wanted to hang out downtown. There was a really popular block back in the day for all the young folk to hang out because it held two very popular clubs, Odells (you know if you belong!) and Signals around the corner. I loved both of these spots. Well, Prince 2.0 decided he wanted to go out and see the happenings around these two spots. Now, the entertainment isn't always going into the venue but finding a nice area on which to perch yourself upon and just watch the activity of the people hanging out in the street outside the club. Oh the sights you'd see. We could literally stand outside and people watch for hours. So Prince 2.0 and I were outside of Signals hanging out with the crowd having a really great time when I looked over to my left and who did I see making his way through the crowd? You guessed it, none other then Crispy. I did what any self respecting serial dater would do when faced with the possibility of getting caught. I ducked down beside a car until Crispy had passed by.

Prince 2.0 looked down at me and was all, "OK, what the hell are you doing down there?" I was lost for words and was like, "Uh, it's late. I see my brother down here looking for me . I think I need to go home now."

So Prince 2.0 was all, "Alright let's roll." and I stood up and sprinted in the other direction so that Crispy couldn't see me.

Prince 2.0 was all, "Slow down! You know I can't run in these boots. There too high."

We get to the car and drive off never to speak of this incident ever again and no one was the wiser.

Somehow, I don't think I could get away with the same behavior today. Hmmmmm....

My This Kitchen Smells - Day 30

This is it!! I've completed my 30 day challenge! Whew hoo!! These 30 days actually flew by.

So today I am to describe my most vivid memory of our kitchen growing up. This is way appropriate seeings that next week is Thanksgiving and all.

We moved around alot as a kid so there wasn't one particular kitchen that stands out. When you are a kid one kitchen looks like the next but what I do remember are the holidays in those kitchens.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas my father would commandeer the kitchen and kick my mother out. He had work to do. My father loved to bake, a trait he got from my southern Alabamian grandmother. Each year he would systematically go to the grocery store and purchase all of his ingredients. He'd come home and meticulously put it all together and create these culinary masterpieces.

I would sit back and just watch him work. It wasn't a holiday until daddy would perform his magic in the kitchen. Oh the smells that would emanate from that oven were heaven. It gave me such warmth. It just wasn't the holiday until my father performed his magic.

He'd bake until the wee hours of the morning, way past my bed time so when I awoke the next morning there would be all kinds of cakes and pies on the counter. It was like the cake and pie fairies came by and dropped a load of stuff off at our house.

I truly miss those days.

What are your fondest memories of your kitchen?
