It's Clearer Now

Today is my last day of vacation and it sucks. I've been off for the last six days and I have been having a ball with this free time. I could really get used to a life of luxury. With that said tomorrow I return to the land of the employed.

Usually after a vacation I'm ready to get back to work but not this time. I'm enjoying getting up at noon and staying in my PJ's all day. Eating all day. Yeah, this is the life.

I've been eating McDonald's, ice cream, pies, pasta, all kinds of goodies. Wait a minute....let's think about this for a minute. Since I've been home I've been eating like I've lost my mind. Maybe I do need to get my butt back to work and quick.

Dating 2 or More People is Tough! I Don't Know How Men Do It.

OK, so I am not dating two or more guys currently and I don't advocate doing so by any means. Hell, I'm not even dating one but that's not to say I didn't partake in such behavior in my youth. That's what you are supposed to do when you are young, hang out and party and date your ass off. Right? Don't judge me!

I remember in ancient times when I was in my mid 20's and I was dating a guy I'll call Prince 2.0 and this other gentleman I'll call Crispy. They both knew each other existed but neither knew I was involved with the other. This was a second go round for Prince 2.0 and I as we dated when I was 18 years old. He was my first boyfriend and the guy that I lost my virginity too. That was an experience and a half which I will tell you about some other time. Anyway, Prince 2.0 and I found each other again years after our breakup and decided to give it another shot. I was too much of a wuss to tell Crispy that I was getting involved with Prince 2.0 again so I thought it best to date them both until I sorted this whole thing out.

One evening Prince 2.0 decided he wanted to hang out downtown. There was a really popular block back in the day for all the young folk to hang out because it held two very popular clubs, Odells (you know if you belong!) and Signals around the corner. I loved both of these spots. Well, Prince 2.0 decided he wanted to go out and see the happenings around these two spots. Now, the entertainment isn't always going into the venue but finding a nice area on which to perch yourself upon and just watch the activity of the people hanging out in the street outside the club. Oh the sights you'd see. We could literally stand outside and people watch for hours. So Prince 2.0 and I were outside of Signals hanging out with the crowd having a really great time when I looked over to my left and who did I see making his way through the crowd? You guessed it, none other then Crispy. I did what any self respecting serial dater would do when faced with the possibility of getting caught. I ducked down beside a car until Crispy had passed by.

Prince 2.0 looked down at me and was all, "OK, what the hell are you doing down there?" I was lost for words and was like, "Uh, it's late. I see my brother down here looking for me . I think I need to go home now."

So Prince 2.0 was all, "Alright let's roll." and I stood up and sprinted in the other direction so that Crispy couldn't see me.

Prince 2.0 was all, "Slow down! You know I can't run in these boots. There too high."

We get to the car and drive off never to speak of this incident ever again and no one was the wiser.

Somehow, I don't think I could get away with the same behavior today. Hmmmmm....

My This Kitchen Smells - Day 30

This is it!! I've completed my 30 day challenge! Whew hoo!! These 30 days actually flew by.

So today I am to describe my most vivid memory of our kitchen growing up. This is way appropriate seeings that next week is Thanksgiving and all.

We moved around alot as a kid so there wasn't one particular kitchen that stands out. When you are a kid one kitchen looks like the next but what I do remember are the holidays in those kitchens.

Every Thanksgiving and Christmas my father would commandeer the kitchen and kick my mother out. He had work to do. My father loved to bake, a trait he got from my southern Alabamian grandmother. Each year he would systematically go to the grocery store and purchase all of his ingredients. He'd come home and meticulously put it all together and create these culinary masterpieces.

I would sit back and just watch him work. It wasn't a holiday until daddy would perform his magic in the kitchen. Oh the smells that would emanate from that oven were heaven. It gave me such warmth. It just wasn't the holiday until my father performed his magic.

He'd bake until the wee hours of the morning, way past my bed time so when I awoke the next morning there would be all kinds of cakes and pies on the counter. It was like the cake and pie fairies came by and dropped a load of stuff off at our house.

I truly miss those days.

What are your fondest memories of your kitchen?

My First Apartment - Day 28

Do you remember your first apartment? I sure do. I went out looking all over Baltimore County to find a nice apartment that I could afford on my $27K a year salary.

I found this apartment complex in an older section of Baltimore County and thought,"Pay dirt!!" This is perfect. It was a studio apartment for only $400 a month. Yes!

I plopped down my app fee and my security deposit and anxiously starting counting down the days til I moved. Let me describe this gem to you. It was the size of my current walk in closet. There was no kitchen just an "area" that held a stove and refrigerator. The cabinets were like metal or steal. The carpet was this really dark cheap brown. The apartment was so small that there was just one window air conditioner that cooled the entire apartment. Yeah baby, I pulled out all the stops with this one! Oh yeah, I would hear the guy upstairs constantly having sex over my head. I started dating him several years later but that's another story.

Do you remember your first apartment?

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post!!

My 5 Pet Peeves - Day 27

Wow! I only have three more days left in this challenge. Seems like the time has gone by so quickly. Today's challenge asks me to list my 5 pet peeves. Here goes:

1. I hate when people spit on the ground. Eeeeiiiwwww!
2. I hate when I speak to you and you walk right by me as if I was invisible without replying.
3. I hate excessive tattoos.
4. I hate when someone constantly butchers the english language.
5. I hate when I hold the door open for you and you walk through without saying thank you.

What are your pet peeves.

My Night Out - Day 26

Hello my bloghearts! I hope you all had a great weekend. I had a really nice one. I attended a fundraising fashion show. You want to see some pictures from the show? Here you go.

Don't worry ladies, there was plenty of eye candy for us as well.

This particular design was created from plastic bags and paper. Very creative. It was for a special competition where they had to use unusual material for the design.

I really enjoyed myself. I have to say that there were some really interesting characters in attendance though. The lady next to me, I guess, missed dinner so she decided to cook crab cakes and wrap them in aluminum foil and bring them with her to the fashion show and proceeded to grub back right there in the audience! Are you kidding me? Wow. I was done. Then she pulls out this huge bag of 3 Musketeers and asks me if I want one. Ugh no.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post!

As you drive down certain streets you inevitably come across a liquor store. Every now and then you'll see a sign like this one:

I know what beer is, I know what wine is, but what the hell are Spirits?

Just wondering.

Are You There God It's Me Diva? - Day 23

So today's challenge has me telling you about my favorite book as a teen. When I was about 12 I read a book called Are You There God It's Me Margaret by Judy Bloom. That book was so profound and hit me so strongly I guess because I was the same age as Margaret going through the exact same things she was at that age.

I loved how she and her friends, Nancy and Gretchen, were so close and she had a huge crush on Norman. James was my Norman back then. Aaaawww *swoon* . I remember that infamous spin the bottle game she and her friends played where she had to kiss a boy in the closet. Aaaawww the memories.

I really think every young girl around 12 years old should read this book. It's like a rite of passage. For those of you that have young daughters or nieces I strongly recommend getting them this book. Even though it was written in the 70's, it is still so very relevant today.

Now that I am writing about it I have this sudden urge to read this book again and relive my preteen years.

Stay tuned for tomorrows post!

Have You Outgrown Your Friends? - Day 22

Take a moment and think over your life. Think of all the people that have come in and out of your life. Think of the person you are today.

Would you say that all of the people you currently have in your life actually belong there?

Are your current friends in the same space you are in?

I've asked myself this question on many occasions. In thinking about my current circle of friends I often wonder why we are still friends actually. We are all in different places in our lives. All of my friends with the exception of 2 have kids. I don't. I have the ability to come and go and do as I please and none of my friends here in Baltimore can do that. They have alot more restrictions placed on them then I do. They are not as spontaneous as I am. None of them here in Baltimore have jobs except one of them. I have a career that I love. They are not as willing to take as many risks as I am.

I have one friend, K, who lives in NC that seems to be the only one of my friends that I have anything in common with but that heifer lives in NC! We both have the same career path which is how we met many years ago. I think that our similarities are why we have become so close over the years.

I think I keep my friends in Baltimore around out of a sense of obligation because we have been friends for 20 + years in most cases.

I know for a fact that is a major reason why I can't wait to move to Atlanta; so that I can meet a whole new group of friends that have the same likes and dislikes as I and have a similar lifestyle. I really need to bond with more like minded people and I don't think I can do that here in Baltimore.

I would never stop being friends with my current girls here in Baltimore but I so need a new circle to hang in. I have grown so much as a person over the years and none of my friends here seem to be doing the same and it's a little frustrating for me. I, obviously, can not talk to my B-more friends about this so you guys are it.

My girl in NC, K, she and I have talked about this at great lengths before and she totally gets where I am coming from.

Have you ever felt you've outgrown your friends?

Stay tuned for tomorrow post: Are You There God It's Me Diva?

Gotta Love When The Crazy Shows Up! - Day 21

I was reading a post on Diary of a Mad Woman’s Blog in which she had a guest post from a fellow blogger and she was talking about her online dating experience. After reading this I had to chuckle to myself thinking back on all the crazy online dating experiences I’ve had, many of which have been chronicled here. One of her experiences prompted me to write this here post.

I’ve been on many dates from online dating services. Most of them have been cool while others have been….well let’s just say I was lucky to escape with my own skin and not have him wearing it as a coat. Does this one ring a bell to anyone ? Uuummm, Yeah.

She dodged a bullet so to speak with one guy who turned out to be psychotic and I couldn’t help just reminisce on my own good fortune.

Several years ago I saw the profile of this guy who was rather attractive. Dude was all kinds of fine so of course I had to send him a note. He responded and it was game on. We corresponded via online messages for awhile then it progressed to phone calls.

We clicked like peanut butter and jelly. I just knew I had found my match. We had so much in common that I was left speechless most of the time. It was all good until his crazy started showing up.

He started telling me that he really didn’t have a job as I was led to believe. OK, so you are unemployed? Interesting. Then he started telling me about how the government was behind the creation of AIDS and had no intention of ever finding a cure. I also found out that the feds were stalking him unfairly because they were certain he was guilty of certain crimes that he is of course innocent of. He then felt the need for a change of scenery and was compelled by some force stronger then he to board a bus and go to Colorado to live. He had no friends or family there, no place to live or a job lined up. Sounds like a solid decision to me.

Oh yeah, the crazy had showed up in full force. Needless to say we somehow lost contact shortly after that.

Trading Lives - Day 20

So today's challenge is to determine who I would trade lives with if I could. Hmmmm...this is an easy one.

If I had the chance to trade lives with someone I would mostly definitely choose Beyonce. I mean who wouldn't want her life.

She is young, gorgeous, smoking bod, married to a super rich famous guy, super rich herself, famous and talented as all get out. Who wouldn't want to be her.

If you could trade lives with someone who would it be?

He Wanted to be in a Text Relationship - Day 17

Hey all. Let me tell you, I keep up with the latest trends. I am on facebook and twitter and I access all of this via my blackberry. Pretty progressive huh? I text people, no big deal. I love texting actually but when did it become customary to carry on an extensive texting marathon/relationship with someone you are trying to get to know?

I met this guy a couple of weeks ago. He seemed pretty OK, normal even. We would text back and forth then I noticed that we were spending an extreme amount of time texting. I'm not used to this. I'm used to texting a little bit but if we are going to communicate extensively one of us picks up the phone.

Whatever happened to actual voice on voice action? I mean seriously. I don't like having a back and forth texting session for hours on end, call me dammit! My fingers can't take it.

Tune in for tomorrow's post!

I will NOT Leave the House - Day 16

Oh there are a couple of things I WILL NOT leave the house without. My makeup and my cellphone.

If I were to try to leave my house without either of those I would start twitching and convulsing. It wouldn't be pretty.

I have actually left my house, on my way to work, late as usual, and realized I left my phone and turned right around and retrieved it. I don't play.

I can not function without my makeup and cellphone.

What can't you leave your house without?

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post!
