I Don't Want to Talk To Your Kid

Hello Bloghearts. I hope all is well. I just got off of the telephone with one of my closest friends. I'll call her Hyper. Hyper and I have been friends for more the 30 years. I love her, I really do.

Hyper has a 4 year old son. Every time she and I speak on the phone she has to put the little guy on the phone. I hate when she does that. She'll put him on the phone and you can hear her in the background, "Say hi. Say hi to Aunt Diva." Silence. He just totally sits there holding the phone saying absolutely nothing. It's very awkward and annoying. I find myself yelling into the receiver, "Hey honey. How are you? Hey honey. You there?" I don't call there to talk to her son and try to get him to speak. I can feel brain cells dying every mili-second that goes by.

People, I love kids, I really do. I want to just squeeze them every time I am around them but I really don't want to talk to them on the phone.

Why do people like putting their kids on the phone? Better yet, why do people think that I want to talk to the little buggers?

Diva loves the kids.

Let's Have The Talk

How many of you watch The Talk? I've been a faithful viewer since the very beginning. I love this show. I much preferred it over The View because the first ladies of the morning are usually a little too political for me but the ladies of The Talk have always been funny, fun, and relatable, largely due to the dynamic of the ladies and their chemistry. I have to say, Holly Robinson Peete and Leah Remini are hilarious and were clearly my stand out favorites.

When I heard they were not asked back for the second season I was completely upset and waged a Twitter war with CBS. For some reason they didn't listen to me and change their ways. Go figure. Anyway, I knew from the core of my being that this was a huge mistake. I was not the only one to feel this way. I follow Leah and Holly on Twitter and they retwitted many, many tweets of support and vows of no longer watching the show. Well they decided to add Molly Shannon and Sheryl Underwood. Really? They think Sheryl and Molly are a better fit then Leah and Holly. Really?

The show has become very uncomfortable for me to watch now. I'm not liking this change. CBS you should have listened to me and brought Leah and Holly back. Shame on you.

I heard that Julie Chen got all diva and didn't get along with Holly and Leah. She may have been threatened by their popularity, I don't know. Well, because of who Julie is married too the edict was handed down and Holly and Leah were unceremoniously given the boot. Talk about job security.

I wasn't too sure of these allegations until I watched the show dedicated to 9/11. The ladies were all sitting around the table giving their take on their 9/11 experience but when it came to Julie, she had a whole black and white vinyet taped with music and the whole nine yards. I remember looking at the show waiting for the other ladies to get their chance in the spotlight and tell their tale but it never came. Just Julie.

Hmmmm, there just might be something to this whole allegation of Julie being a controlling diva.

It's weird that she took over when the whole idea was Sarah Gilbert's. She's the executive producer for goodness sakes but it's become the Julie Chen and the Ladies show. I might just have to stop watching myself.

Hello all. This is Labor Day weekend which means only one thing....the summer is coming to a close. Usually I dread this time of year because I love my spring and summer months but actually, this year I am ambivalent about it. I guess because this year I will be in the south for the first time and won't have to deal with all the freezing temps and 4 feet of snow I'm used to. Yes it gets cold here in GA but nothing like what the north receives.

I talked to all of my peeps in MD recently to make sure everyone is OK. The north east has had some really crazy things happen recently. First an earthquake then a hurricane right after. Yowzers. We got nothing here. That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

Getting back the the whole Labor Day thing, who's having a bbq? I need some free food and a bbq to crash so fess up. I promise to bring my wonderful whit and charm. You can leave your address in the comments, its safe here.

Another Year, Another Apartment

Whew! Hello my bloghearts. It's time for a post. I swear I really will get better about posting regularly. I promise. Anyway, another year has gone by, meaning my birthday was Friday. It went by uneventfully. I moved last week so I was consumed with moving and getting settled. The move went well except the movers scratched a few items which pissed me off but they broke a wheel off of my coffee table. I am currently in the process of ordering another set of wheels and it is really pissing me off but whatever.

I love the new area. It's very busy here but I like that. I am surrounded by restaurants! OMG! For a foodie like me I see nothing but trouble in my future. I was sitting on my living room sofa and started feigning for some cheesecake so I went to Cheesecake Factory and bought a Red Velvet Cake cheesecake and brought it home. OMG! That was the best cheesecake I have ever had in my life!! It took my three days to eat the damn thing because it is such a large piece. YUM! Yeah, I foresee alot of trouble in my future.

In other news, I have made some decisions and set some new goals regarding my life and its direction and can I tell you that I am so very excited about the new direction I am going in. It's too early to disclose my plans and goals just yet but trust me when it's time I will fill you all in.

Getting back to my new living area, I am near a super Target. What's really great about this super Target is that they sell Martin's potato bread. Have you ever eaten Martin's patato bread? I don't think you understand, in my old apartment, I had to drive to two different grocery stores to buy Martin's and now that it is so close to my home now I am over the moon!!! That is the only bread I can eat and you never know how important a certain bread is until you can no longer find it. All in all life is wonderful right now.

I will do my best to post twice this week with updates.

Booty Call Protocol

I was sitting in my apartment watching TV and a question suddenly hit me. Is there a booty call protocol? Let me give you a back story.

In the show I was watching, a woman walked into a coffee shop and found her lover talking to another woman. She was calm and collected and simply asked him, "So is this the reason you had to leave early?" with a sly grin on her face. I immediately started thinking, 'Wow, she handled that really well. I'm impressed.' I began to think how I would handle a similar situation. If I saw my lover with someone else do I have a right to get angry? Especially if there is no commitment between us? Is there a booty call protocol when you see your lover out with someone else when you two are not in a monogamous relationship?

How would you handle this situation? Would you feel your lover owed you some sort of level of respect or do you feel you guys owe each other nothing?

I would hope that I would be ladylike and take the high road but I would probably snatch the dude bald and kick the girl in the teeth but that's just me.

Home Sweet Home

I spent the last two weeks in Baltimore, minus the weekend, and I am finally home for good and I can't tell you how glad I am to finally sleep in my own bed tonight!

I was seated next to two young girls on the plane that were about 16 or 17. They were so cute. They felt the need to tell me that they just left New York and DC. This was their first time on a plane. They kept asking me questions about what to expect. "Can we use our phones?" "Can we use our iPods?" "Are we starting to go down now?" They were too cute.

They are from a very small town in Georgia with a population of 2000 and NY and DC was just a bit too much for them and they were glad to be getting back to their simple, small town lives.

The cute meter went off the charts when the one sitting next to me stated that she couldn't wait to get home to see her father. He just got home after spending a year in Afghanistan. She only spent 1 day with him before she had to go out of town. Aaaawwwww.

In stark contrast, there was this little kid seated behind me that kept kicking my chair. I wanted to pop him upside his head. Don't get it twisted, I will fight a kid.

I'm Going To Start Borrowing Kids

My wonderful nieces came down to visit me this week from Maryland. They are still here so my place looks like a war zone. I'm not used to this and it's driving me crazy but I can deal for another couple of days. Oy Vey. lol

When they first got here I asked them what they wanted to do over the week. They immediately piped up and shouted, "Go see Rio!" I was so relieved. Truth be told I wanted to see this movie myself but I couldn't justify going on my own. Come on! You know good and well it would look weird for a grown woman going into a movie theater to see an animated flick without any kids so I was so glad they wanted to see it too. Score! I was this close to borrowing someones kid.

I completely forgot how messy kids cane be. There is spilled juice on my cream colored carpet, video games all over the living room, used dishes in the sink and on the stove, lights left on. I mean can you please cut off the lights when you leave a room? Is it really the difficult?

I love my babies but is it Saturday yet?

You Take Too Much Time

I have never watched Celebrity Apprentice before. It just seemed boring to me so I never watched, until this season. With the drama between Star Jones and Nene Leaks you know I had to watch to see how it all went down.

The thing I like about Celebrity Apprentice is that everything happens in one night. The competition and the elimination all happen in one night. There is no watching the competition one night then tuning in the next night to see who gets booted. No, its all done in one night and you know what? I love it!!! I love having everything finished in one night.

I love American Idol and Dancing With The Stars but this whole thing with watching the competition one night then tuning in the next night to see who gets offed is a pain in the ass. It's not a good use of my time. So now I'm taking four days to watch two shows. That's not right.

There is no reason AI and DWTS can't have the competition then have the judges off someone that night. Come on people! I have other shows to watch. It's called time management here.

I think I am going to start a petition to have AI and DWTS handle their business on one night. No more of this results night crap.

I'm A Better Boss Then You

I was watching a TV news program this morning and they were discussing the virtues of who make better bosses men or women. As you can imagine, half the panel thought women made better bosses and the other half of the panel felt men were the better bosses.

It got me to thinking; who were my favorite bosses over the years? I perused my mental Rolodex of all the bosses I have had and one by one it became clear to me. I have had horrible male bosses and horrible female bosses but by far and large the best managers I have ever had the pleasure of working with have been women. That whole "women can be moody bitches" stereotype simple didn't exist. For whatever reason, my female bosses have all been decisive, commanding, smart and compassionate all at the same time. Most of the male bosses I had were OK but we simply didn't connect for whatever reason, with the exception of one.

So, my friends, if you have never had a woman boss you have really missed out. If you currently have a male boss tell him that this situation doesn't work for you anymore and you no longer want to report to him and must switch bosses immediately. Who do you think make better bosses, men or women?

You Are Holding Me Up

I was in the checkout line at the grocery store yesterday looking through the tabloids minding my own business waiting for the line to move when I realized the line hadn't moved in quite sometime. I looked at the people in front of me and the cashier and saw something very stunning. The woman in front of me was actually performing an act that was so surprising I was speechless; she was writing a check! An actual paper check! I know!!!

When was the last time you wrote a check to purchase something? With the advent of debit cards and everyone and their mother has one why is there ever a need to write a check? I am surprised stores still accept them. As I stood there watching this it suddenly dawned on me why we began using debit cards in lieu of paper checks when making purchases. The transaction takes too damn long!! I had to wait for her to write the check, wait for the cashier to punch in some buttons on her little contraption, then I had to wait for her to slide the check through some slot on the side of her contraption then I had to wait for the manager to come over and put his mark on it.

I wanted to seriously cause this woman some bodily hard. People, this is why we use debit cards!!! So if any of you are contemplating writing a check at a cash register, do us all a favor and don't! The life you save just might be your own.

My New Baby!!

OK, so I've been using the GPS on my Blackberry to get around Atlanta. It's been serving me very well actually but I felt I needed a real GPS system. I needed one that would be right in my face and louder then the cell phone. Well people, I finally did it! I went out and sprung for a real GPS and I am in love! Why didn't you guys tell me how great these things are? I hold you personally responsible for me being deprived. She is wonderful. I've been trying to come up with reasons to get in my car and drive somewhere just so I could use it. I may never get out of the car again.

You Mean What?

Hello my bloghearts. I was reading a blog I read on occasion, www.nwso.net, and found one of his posts quite entertaining. He decided to tell us 5 things men commonly say and what they really mean so I had to hijack his post and post it here too.

(Taken straight from NWSO)

(1) “I’ll Call You Later”

The problem with this statement is interpretation, or better yet misinterpretation. While men will define the word “later” as any time after now, women tend to have a specific window of time that defines “later” as meaning as soon as I reach my destination. It’s like somewhere between the words leaving a man’s mouth (or fingers via text) and reaching a woman’s ears, she adds an additional word like “tonight” after “later.” When I say, “I’ll call you later,” it doesn’t guarantee that later will take place within the next 24 hours just what it means, I’ll call you later—whenever that may be.

Translation: He’ll call when he has the time or remembers.

(2) “I’ve Been Busy”

Now this is often the first thing a man says when he hasn’t called a woman “later.” It’s actually a very valid reason when there’s major life catastrophes going on (death in the family, moving, new job, moonlighting as a superhero, etc.) but more times than not “busy” just means occupied with something (or someone) else. We’ve all heard the saying that a man makes time for the things he’s interested, right? Well, unless he’s Bruce Wayne that’s generally true.

Translation: He’s probably not that into you.

(3) “Wow, That’s Interesting

Chances are whatever you’re talking about is actually pretty darn interesting, unfortunately only to you. However, since it’s apparently important to you he’ll play along and fake interest just for the possibility of scoring with you.

Translation: Sorry, I wasn’t listening and I couldn’t care less.

(4) “I’m Not Looking For a Relationship”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; men usually tell women where their head is from jump but most women just tend to ignore what we say. If a man tells you on the first date that he’s not in a space where he’s looking for a relationship but you are and still pursue this man for a commitment down the line; who’s at fault when things don’t work out? Exactly, you. What some women try to do is trick themselves into believing he’ll change his mind, but most men generally stick to their guns and if you stick around after he declares his desire to stay single he’s not wrong in assuming you’re with it. When I broke up with my last girlfriend after college I told myself I needed to be single and made that clear to any woman I met. While I may have been upset at the few that walked away after a few months because they wanted more, at the end of the day I respected their decision to do so because it made sense.

Translation: He’s telling you the truth
.

(5) “What Are You Talking About?”

This is my general response when I’m being accused of something that’s probably true but I won’t admit to for whatever reason. For instance, a date asks, “Why were you looking at another woman’s butt?” My response, “What are you talking about?” It’s usually a knee-jerk response that I subconsciously use to kill time so I can come up with a valid excuse. It also works well at transferring the focus from me to her by making her think she’s crazy and/or paranoid. By time she’s finished defending herself, she’s either forgotten my discretion or I’ve had time to come up with an reasonably valid excuse.

Translation: He’s lying. ”

Boom! My gift to you ladies. See, now you can't say I never gave you anything. Enjoy!

You Are So Wrong

OK, so I have a really good friend that I love dearly. Sometimes she can be a little off base and a little paranoid but I love her nonetheless. She has an 18 year old daughter and a beautiful 3 year old who I want to kidnap and just squeeze because she is just too adorable. Anyway, her 18 year old daughter has this boyfriend who at first her parents loved but later proved to be very irresponsible and disrespectful. In the age old tradition of love lorned teenagers everywhere since the beginning of time who's parents want them apart they have stayed together and professed their undying love.

It got so bad that the daughter moved out of her parents house and moved in with her boyfriend and his parents. Obviously my friend and her husband are really upset but there is nothing neither of them can do at this point. As you might imagine she got pregnant. Neither of them are employed so this is going to be difficult. The daughter calls her mother from time to time hoping to get some support from her but my friend is very stoic when she calls and very matter of fact and unyielding. Mind you this is the girls first child so she really needs her mother right now but my friend is so not getting involved with this situation at all.

The boyfriends mother put them out and they stayed with his friend for awhile. I asked her if she would let her daughter come back home and she said she'd have to break up with him first before that can happen. I wanted to shout at the top of my lungs that you are sooooo wrong for that. I understand that you don't like dude but the fact is now he is going to be the father of your first grandchild. You can not ask this guy to break up with his girlfriend and leave her stranded with a baby because they will not allow him in their house. THAT would be terribly wrong. Now is the time for them to shut up, bite the bullet and accept the situation and make the best of it. There will soon be a child involved. Oy vey.

I think I'm Ready

OK, so I am finally seeing my way clear of boxes so now I am in the process of trying to make my apartment feel like home. I finally feel like I am ready to start hanging out and as I think about that I am starting to get excited. I'm going to start perusing my email to see what the happenings are here in Atlanta. the weather is supposed to be GORGEOUS this weekend so I am excited about doing a little exploring.

I've been working from home and I am actually starting to enjoy it. It does take some getting use to, being home all day and all. It felt a little weird at first but starting to settle into that as well. All in all I'm feeling pretty darn good these days.

I feel bad that I haven't had time to go around and explore your blogs lately but I am going to fix that right now and I am going to go around and visit each of you because I miss my bloghearts.

What are your plans for the upcoming weekend?

You Can Beat My Kids

With the divorce rate in the US being as high as 50% there is no wonder that many families are blended families. I was listening to a conversation the other day that sparked a question that I wanted to pose to you all.

If you had children and decided to marry someone that was not their biological parent would you allow them to discipline your child? If so to what degree would they be able to discipline?

A few people in the conversation felt that it would be OK if their spouse disciplined their kids while a few others were adamant that no one should ever touch their child.

How do you feel about this? Would it be OK if your new spouse disciplined your child? If no, then wouldn't that diminish the authority and respect the step parent should have? Your thoughts?

Who's To Blame?

We've all heard discussions or have been apart of discussions surrounding cheating mates. Why they cheat, who's fault it is and whatnot. I've even blogged about it once or twice here myself. I would link to the post(s) but I'm too lazy to go look for them.

Anyway, one of my favorite bloggers, Senorita, put on a post today talking about a radio caller who confessed that she only dates married men. Once I got over my initial disgust with this caller I went on to continue reading her post. Senorita goes on to say that she doesn't date married men, not because she owes the wife and family anything, but because of self respect.

I applaud her for that actually. I think every woman should have enough self respect to not stoop so low as to date a married man and vice versa. Her post did raise a question though. Do we owe each other anything when it comes to relationships?

I know many people will say no, we don't owe anyone anything but I am not so sure. Don't we owe each other a certain amount of consideration and respect? Shouldn't we all owe each other respect for the mere fact we are all humans who love, hurt, and bleed the same?

If not then shouldn't we at least respect the institution of marriage? If we don't have some basic respect for one another then I fear the actions and behavior we exhibit toward one another will became increasingly more deplorable and where would that lead us? I think that without respect and consideration we are really setting ourselves up for a great deal more chaos and many more societal ills then we currently experience.

Of course I wouldn't date a married man because I respect myself too much to ever settle for a piece of a man but I also respect the other woman out of a sense of sisterhood and I respect the institution of marriage.

Your thoughts?

Day 30 - What is Changing in Your Life

Wow! I can't believe that today is the last day of my 30 day challenge. Woohoo! So today's challenge is to describe what is changing in my life.

If you follow my blog with any regularity you kinda already know. I am in the process of making my big move from Baltimore to Atlanta. In four weeks to be exact! This is the biggest thing I've ever done and I'm excited, nervous and overwhelmed at the same time. Although I have all of these emotions I am still pushing through because I know in my heart this needs to happen. I can not let nervousness and fear stop me from moving on to the next chapter in my life. I think that is where many people get stuck and block their blessings. They are too afraid to move on to something new and different because they are unsure of the future or the outcome and that is uncomfortable. My thing is God lets us know all the time what we should and shouldn't do, it's those unexplained feelings in the pit of your stomach or that little voice in your head. He is moving you to position you for the blessings he's ready to bestow upon you but you are too afraid of the unknown of the change to make that move and your blessings are blocked at that point because you are not where you need to be.

I am not one to let fear and discomfort stop me from doing what I know I need to do. It's very fearful and uncomfortable leaving your home that you've built your entire life, giving up your surroundings and family and friends and strike out on your own hundreds of miles away from everything you've ever known.

Now don't get me wrong, I haven't always been this actualized. There were times in my life when I let the fear over take me and I didn't make necessary changes but as I grew I came to realize I was blocking my own blessings and to trust that little voice in my head, my intuition because that is God's way of communicating to me what he wants from me. So now I listen.

I don't know what my employment situation will be once I land in Atlanta. I will tell my boss on Monday what my plans are and let the chips fall where they may but I am confident that whatever happens it will all work out. I am open and receptive to whatever is to come.

I am excited about this new chapter in my life and I am looking forward to all of it.

So what's changing in my life? Everything and I can't wait.

Randomness and What's Coming in the Future.

I am so not myself today. After a crushing defeat my Ravens experienced at the hands of the Squealers, I mean Steelers last night I just can't function today.

I'm not sure I can get over this loss. I"m glad it wasn't a beat down or a slaughter. It was a respectable 10-13 loss but still. It doesn't lessen the pain any. Oh well.....hold on....give me a minute.

In other news I've mapped out my timeline and plan for my move to Atlanta! I am so excited about this. It feels real now and I can't wait. I just put in for a few days off so that I can fly down there and check out a few more apartments and line up some interviews with a few head hunters. Wish me luck. I'll keep you all posted on everything.

I had so much fun with my 30 Day Blog Challenge that I am going to do it again!!!! I really did have a blast! Starting Thursday I will, again, blog for 30 straight days.

If you want to join in on the fun please feel free. All you have to do is post on your blog and link back to my blog in your post so that everyone knows you are participating. I can't wait to see what you guys come up with!

I would post specific topics for specific days you can blog about but I may veer off those topics if something exciting or interesting happens.

You Have Spirits? - Day 25

As you drive down certain streets you inevitably come across a liquor store. Every now and then you'll see a sign like this one:

I know what beer is, I know what wine is, but what the hell are Spirits?

Just wondering.

You Love a Girly Man!

Both men and women have their own specific tastes and types when it comes to picking a mate. Some of us like the taller of the group, some of us like the shorter ones, some like our mates lighter while some like them darker. Some like the clean cut look while others prefer the edgy rocker types. Our differences are what makes society work so beautifully.

I personally like a pretty boy. Someone who is very handsome to the point of being pretty. I like that a lot. I also enjoy a metrosexual guy. For those that may not know what a metrosexual guy is he is someone that takes great care and pride in his appearance. His grooming is impeccable and his clothing is always on point. He is very particular about his cologne. He's the guy you might even see at the nail salon getting his manicure and pedicure. He wears jewelry and has several pairs of shoes to match different outfits he may own. I love a man that takes good care of himself.

For some women this might be a bit much. They might prefer the rough and tumble, ultra masculine guy. I often find myself drooling over these kinds of guys as well but they all have to have a really handsome face.

I've known for a very long time what kind of guy I was attracted too. When I was 10 years old I had a serious crush on this really cute pretty boy in my class. Then a year later I had my first "boyfriend" who was the neighborhood bad boy and just happened to also be a pretty boy as well. Oh yeah, I knew early on what I liked.

Do you have a specific type? Is a metrosexual guy a little over the top for you? Guys do you prefer legs over boobs?
