You Have Got to Be Kidding Me

OK, I saw an episode of Prison Wives on OWN last night. All I can say is wow. The show is about women who are married to men in prison.

This particular woman from last night had 3 children. She met a man who is serving a life sentence without parole for murder. She received a request to write this guy and she did. The writing progressed to the point of "dating" then eventually marriage. There is so much wrong with this I can't even write it all down.

First of all, why the hell would you want to write a man serving life in prison for murder that you have never met? Secondly, why would you marry a man in prison you only knew for 6 months? Thirdly, why would you subject your kids to the prison world? What message are you sending your kids? I mean really.

This woman has a 16 year old daughter and a 10 year old daughter and a 13 year old son and she takes them to prison for visits. Wow!

I'm sorry but there is no way in hell I would ever become pen pals with some stranger in prison for murder serving a life term. No way. I certainly would never subject my kids to visiting said man in prison. My kids would never, ever see the inside of a prison as long as they are minors under my roof. Never, ever!

This woman is setting a really great example for her kids I tell ya. I was so out done with this story that I could not stop shaking my head.

It was also mentioned that every time her husband was transferred to a different prison, she would uproot the kids and move them so that they could be closer to the new prison. They moved 5 times in 3 years. Unbelievable.

Here is the kicker, this woman has mother that asked her daughters inmate husband if there was a guy SHE could write too also. Are you kidding me? This woman ALSO married this prisoner. I just can't.

I think the women who end up marrying guys they've never met outside of prison must have more self-esteem issues than anyone I've ever met.

I worked with a woman who went with a friend to visit the friend's brother in prison. Unknown to the friend they "dated" and eventually got married. They told the friend when he got released.

His crime? He (accidentally, he says) killed his wife. Maybe, in a heated argument I can stretch my imagination to that point, but I just can't see how he then "accidentally" rolled her body up in a carpet, hid it under a bunch of stuff in the garage and went to work. The woman's son found her.

How in the world could you sleep next to someone who did that? I would be afraid to close my eyes.

oh wow..........I can somehow get over her involvement, but to bring your kids into it?????? Naw, she has some serious issues. And as you said, what type of example are you setting for your daughters let alone your son?????

Those women are clearly screwy! I agree with Stacy - self-esteem issues!

But as someone who frequents the prison world (as a lawyer), I must say that prisons are not THAT bad. I would be ok with my child visiting a relative in the big house. It is reality for many people and wouldn't hide a kid from that reality.

That being said, I don't think anyone should marry an inmate just to drag some step-kids in to see their new daddy.

Well, now there are four of us here who agree with you! Crazy, just plain crazy -or friggin' stupid -not sure which!

Crazy & desperate is what comes to mind when I read this. Seriously...marrying a man in prison for murder says what about yourself?? You couldn't meet a man through any other sources?? Why would you settle for a situation like then and THEN involve your children in the mess too! This couple will never have the opportunity to be together on "normal" terms...I'm guessing the woman wants some kind of control and is using his prison term to her advantage. This whole thing is still wacko though.

At least you don't have to worry about where he is at night or cheating (at least not with another woman). Kidding!

I can't even begin to understand that mentality.

I would never ever take the risk that that involves. I have a hard enough time finding my Prince outside of prison so why would I want to look in prison?

I have seen a show similar to that where the lady puts her life on hold just to talk to her man once a night. She is spending all this time researching his appeal.

Too much is wrong with that picture!

Wow..... they must think it's a sure thing, they know where the man is at all times, and hey, at least he isn't screwing another woman.

How bad do you have to feel about yourself to want a "relationship" like that? That is the part that makes me the saddest. Well, that & the poor kids.
