You Are Holding Me Up

I was in the checkout line at the grocery store yesterday looking through the tabloids minding my own business waiting for the line to move when I realized the line hadn't moved in quite sometime. I looked at the people in front of me and the cashier and saw something very stunning. The woman in front of me was actually performing an act that was so surprising I was speechless; she was writing a check! An actual paper check! I know!!!

When was the last time you wrote a check to purchase something? With the advent of debit cards and everyone and their mother has one why is there ever a need to write a check? I am surprised stores still accept them. As I stood there watching this it suddenly dawned on me why we began using debit cards in lieu of paper checks when making purchases. The transaction takes too damn long!! I had to wait for her to write the check, wait for the cashier to punch in some buttons on her little contraption, then I had to wait for her to slide the check through some slot on the side of her contraption then I had to wait for the manager to come over and put his mark on it.

I wanted to seriously cause this woman some bodily hard. People, this is why we use debit cards!!! So if any of you are contemplating writing a check at a cash register, do us all a favor and don't! The life you save just might be your own.

Oops! I will write a check now and then at the grocery store if I don't have the debit card with me. I apologize now in case you are ever behind me in a line. ;)

I still write checks... I have found that debit cards "allow" me to spend more... unless she was writing a book, it simply doesnt take THAT long to write a check.

I will write checks as long as they will allow me to...

That is funny. Last night, I went to Target & was behind a lady that had to try 5 different credit cards & a few gift cards to pay for her stuff.

I rarely write checks even to pay bills. In fact, I have to search for the check book every time I need it.

I still write checks, but usually at doctors offices, but mainly to pay the rent, so I can track the check. Checks are good for leaving a paper trail.

I wrote a check this year.
For Girl Scout cookies. Bought them from one of 'my' kids at work.

I had to look for about half an hour to find my checkbook. Other than that one check, it's been years since I wrote one.

I have my bank send the checks out for me.
