The Ringing Sound

I'm not sure if you all remember my saying so but I am a technical trainer. Have been for many years now and I love it. I get to encounter many different people and it's always a hoot.

Well, I had a class recently teaching at the local community college. It's a side gig I do from time to time. Anyway, the students were filing in one by one and I was greeting each of them and getting set up.

It was time for class and I was about to begin my welcome spiel when all of a sudden I began hearing this very subtle high pitch, piercing ringing sound. It's one of those sounds where you hear it but can not pin point the origin.

I couldn't take this disruption so I asked the class, "Do you all hear that piercing sound?"

The gentleman right in front of me in the front row uttered the following statement, "Oh, I'm sorry, it's my hearing aid." and he reached up to his right ear and began making an adjustment and the ringing stopped.

Oops!

I felt like such a heel.

The other day...we went out with one of my wife's tennis buddies(Julie) and her husband(Jim). Of course, I can't even remember either one of their names, and I instantly go into my rant of how I HATE REALTORS and if you can count to 5, you can be a realtor and the 6% is the biggest scam on the planet and I hope they all drive off a cliff.

I'm sure you can guess what Jim does for a living.

Just another reason for the wife to "cut me off."

I always have to point to my boss and his hearing aid to let him know it's ringing. I really don't get paid enough.

I've had so many "OOPS" type moments over the course of my life, you can't imagine. Probably my biggest one was when I was at a court hearing for my son (driving an unregistered, un-inspected car, with no license at age 17) after the state trooper who used to live next door to us had the local police do a
"citizen's arrest" on my son. I had told the dist. magistrate I felt my son deserved being punished for what he did, but I thought things could have been handled better had the state cop come over first and told me he had seen my son driving this car, etc. (It was my son's car -he'd just purchased it.) Anyway, the cop says he had tried on numerous occasions to come speak to me but no one ever answered the door. And my response was if I don't answer the door it is either that I am sleeping or simply didn't hear someone knocking as the only person I ever "hid" from was the Fuller Brush Salesman. And then I remembered that the Fuller Brush Man was the father of the district magistrate who was hearing my son's case! Fortunately, he was nice, has a good sense of humor and understood completely the undercurrents in the whole case!
Sorry about writing a mini-novel in the comment though. LOL

I have two SILs that are supposed to wear hearing aids, they don't always but when they do, that sound often happens. Don't feel bad, I'm sure he didn't.

WoW, and I knew where you were going with this story bc I've had experience working with/for some who are hearing impaired so I can imagine the "heelish" feeling
It'll be alright, just glad you didnt say "Turn that music off!"

I'm a trainer too and stuff happens. This past week, I was training in a makeshift training room and I was leaning against a table with four montitors and keyboards on it. I didn't realize how hard I was leaning until someone yelled a second before the entire table, monitors and keyboards when crashing to the floor. Luckily nothing broke. After we'd put everything back, I laughed and told everybody "If you weren't awake before you should be now. I know I am!"
