Old People

OK, it seems that the older we get the more we begin to come full circle in the cycle of life. Think about it, we are born and totally dependent on our parents for our very survival. We get to our teens and go through puberty where we become, mean and cliquish. In those teens years the hottest clothes and the sexiest cars are must haves. We get in our 20's and 30's and material things don't matter much because we are focused on our careers where we are making money like never before and the material things are easy to get at that point. Then we become middle aged and things start to go backwards, we go through mid life crisis and go out and buy that shiny red corvette. Men divorce their wives for some young hottie who's only after their money. Then we become senior citizens and get mean and cliquish again. Then we become ancient and have to rely on our grown children to clothe and bath us.

I visit my mother at her assistant living facility and those old ass people are mean as all get out. They sit at the same tables for every meal and if someone different sits at their table they actually look at them and say, "This is not your table. You can't sit here." Mind you there are no assigned seating in the dining room. So now that person feels unwanted and ends up sitting at a table alone.

I was talking to my mother one day as I was pushing her wheelchair towards the elevator on our way back to her apartment when I accidentally bumped into an old lady. She said, "Ouch, you bumped into me with that thing." I said, "Oh, I'm sorry. I was talking to my mother and I didn't see you." I honestly didn't know I bumped her and genuinely felt bad. This heifer had the audacity to say to me, "Yeah, you weren't paying attention. You need to watch where you are going." Can I tell you I looked at that woman and just stared at her for a minute. I was THIS CLOSE to smacking that old biddy in her mouth. All that nastiness was totally unnecessary and almost got her a beat down.

I'm sorry but I'll fight an old person. That's how I roll.

I don't like to feel that I'll become that cranky old man like that. Maybe I will, but........

It reminds me of the old firm I used to work for. Management was horrifically mean and treated everyone terribly. Well that filters all the way down the company. From day 1, they treated all employees poorly, who then treated each other poorly, who then went home and treated their friends/family poorly. It's like Cancer....It SPREADS.

The Crabby people make the happy people..well...Crabby.

Let's just hope we can become the Old Man/Lady that we've seen in our lives who is the happiest/positive person around.

I just love those people.

My Great-Grandma was this way, full of nastiness and just mean in her old age. Every time she would see one of us, her great-granddaughters, we would hear, "My God, you're getting fat." or "When are getting married? You'll end up an old maid." Granted I was only 15 years old when she asked me this, but she was a very mean old woman.

I hope to never become anything like her.

I go to a nursing home every weekend and let me tell you how right you are. Many of them are nasty as hell.

I think it's funny how some people feel that because someone is old, they can act or say whatever they want ya know? No. Being old doesn't give you a right to be an asshole and just because you're old doesn't mean I'm going to be nice to you!

It's funny because they get either completely grumpy like that are completely looping and super friendly! The funny thing is my neighbors, a couple who are almost 80, have one of each! I wonder how that marriage survived :)

I can hardly fault them for trying to run people off if they sit in the wrong chair, since we are guilty of doing the exact same thing in college.

When my paternal grandmother was in a nursing home, there was the war of the wheelchairs and walking-canes. There was this woman in a wheelchair who would deliberately run into people with her chair. This was annoying enough when she did this to people who worked there and regular people who came to visit, but she would do this to the other patients too. Some of the other patients were very frail people who would get hurt. I don't know if she thought she was fooling anyone with these "accidents", but she was not fooling my grandmother. My grandmother decided to hit her with a cane. The staff then took away my grandmother's walking-cane so that she couldn't hit the other old woman. My grandmother couldn't walk without the cane and was stuck in her room all day. My dad went and told them that either they would return my grandmother's cane or take away the other woman's wheelchair. He was told that the other woman couldn't get around without the wheelchair. My dad didn't care, since she was hurting people with it, the same rule should apply to her. Either give my mother back what she needs to get around or take the wheelchair away from the other woman, but treat both of them the same. Grandma got her cane back and didn't have anymore trouble from that woman.

Not only can old people be mean but they can be old horn dogs too. When I used to visit my grandfather in his assisted living facility, his friend 'Chicago' would always make some sort of comment to me. One day he looked me up and down and said, "Lord have mercy." I replied, "For your sake, you better hope he does."

yeah old people be on that stuff

I almost had a smack one on the train the other day... she came on the train trying to push everybody out of the way with her cart then went to tell everyone to move over and sit closer so she could sit down... I had my purse on the seat inbetween me and my roommate and she walked over and said... well if this one moved her purse there would be enough room...

lawd I had to woooosaaahh... trick ya tail should have been on the train first... mind you she wasn't that old.. she was just older... if she was really old I would have gotten up out of my seat to let her sitdown... that's what I do... old people and pregnant women I will get up for... but if ya tail gonna be rude about it.. then hell no...

I left my purse right there and let her tail squeeze in on the other end... shoot

I can imagine you calling her outside to duke it out! Lol! I've read a couple of books lately that really take you inisde the minds of our elderly, especially those in assisted living facilities. It's rather sad actually. They still "feel" young inside and everyday they look in the mirror and see an old person and it can be a hard reality to grasp. I emphasize with them because as I age and wonder where the wrinkles and gray hair are coming from when inside I still feel 30! That being said I think I'll try to be a kind old person.

My oldest daughter and I have a really hard time with old ladies. We had a bad experience with an old lady who looked very weak and frail and wanted to look that way to the world. In her home she would chain smoke and throw kitchen chairs across the room. She was the meanest woman I have ever known.

Now when Alison and I see an old lady, we look at each other and we know we are both thinking the same thought, we want to beat her down!!!!!!!

Lol! Don't you start fighting older people now! lol

This old chick at church almost beat me down after I accidently touched her bun while clapping. Mind you it wasn't hers and the rest of her hair was barely meeting the fake piece, so no one would have noticed if the bun was dishelved. Mean ol bitty!
