A Clean Slate

I’ve blogged about wanting to move from Baltimore and start fresh somewhere else. I’ve been debating between Atlanta and the Los Angeles area. Well after reviewing the price of apartments on apartments.com I think my decision has been made for me.

Have these people in California lost their damn minds?! I mean really. Paying $2500 to $4000 per month for a 2 bedroom apartment. Get real.

Atlanta is much more reasonable.

So there you have it. Atlanta here I come. I wish I could make this move immediately but I just can’t do that. I could not abandon my mother. So, for that reason I am pretty much stuck here in Baltimore.

Oh well. Trust me when I say this, as soon as it is feasibly possible, I am so out of Maryland it will make your head spin.

Have you ever felt like you just want to drop everything and make a fresh start somewhere else? The thought of a clean slate is so intoxicating.

For some reason this desire is all consuming. I know in my heart of hearts that my time in Baltimore is limited and that is beyond exciting.

I have friends who live now or have lived in Atlanta. I hear good things about it. Haven't really been there since teh 1970s, though.

I'm an east coast girl... coming from DC... you may not be keen to LA... plus Atlanta is teh Black Wall Street right now... 70% of the population is african american and black owned businesses are thriving. Good luck with the move... I was actually thinking about moving to atlanta

I have a friend who dropped everything and moved to Las Vegas like that. He is so happy now that it makes me want to do the same. But I don't think I have the guts. I am not as brave as you.

I live just outside of New York City. Those LA prices don't seem too insane to me....LOL.

I've dreamt for years about moving out of here but so far no go. I keep joking that I can't get a bus ticket out of this town....

I have a friend who grew up in Atlanta and speaks very highly of it.

Since I have a child to raise, I don't think I will be moving anytime soon.

If I could move anywhere, I would go to Buffalo NY. People think I am insane, but really, it's home to me.

I have everything I need in this town, not to say it's what I want, but this is home for now and I can't imagine just picking up and moving for the sake of it, without a reason to go to the new destination (ie. job, family) Just leaping without looking would scare me too much.

Good luck to you. Is the Analyst willing to move with you or don't you care.

YES I do have that feeling from time to time...

I felt that way and did move to California, and it is expensive but it's sooooooo worth it. It's beautiful and sunny and did I mention beautiful? I'm in San Diego though... LA not so much.

I've been in Florida all my life, and for the last year or so I've been itching to get out of this god-forsaken, hurricane-blowing state. But, hubby is stubborn and I'm going to have to thoroughly convince him of what a good idea it is to move. Georgia has always been my first pick, North Carolina a close second.

I felt the same way living in PA before I moved to Arizona. Go girl!! I'll wave hi to you when I drove through Maryland at the end of the week.

Girl, every other day I tell people I'm moving to Africa (circa Belly).
Nah, I do like the allure of a clean slate though!!

I kinda did that when I moved from Michigan to Indiana when I was 24 and newly married. I was pissed at my parents at the time (long story). The decision has caused me a lot of heartache over the past 9 years but I also feel like I belong here more than there. Just be sure you're not moving to escape any problems ... they have a way of following you ...

Oh, I've thought about dropping everything and moving to some state I've never been to before, like Alaska. I love the cold weather, plus the men to women ratio is suppose to be good, but with my daughter, I couldn't leave Ohio because of my parents, siblings and so on.

the other day i wondered: why on earth did i move to NY??? but u know what? sometimes that's what you need, a new start... new people, new city. hope everything goes ok with your planning on moving. Atlanta is a great city! If Allen moves there... I'll go there too :)
I do agree with that person who said that moving doesnt mean your problems stay in MD. Make sure you move for the right reasons...

My older daughter has often talked about moving to this place or that or some other city/town/state/country -whatever. However, because she also has a dreamer's mind and a tendency to blame her problems on everyone but herself, for her to pull up stakes she would just be making a "geographic cure" and not one that would be well-planned, thought out to the nth degree, etc., and her problems would just tag along with her there. All places have their drawbacks from time to time and their good points too -well, usually. Sit down and survey point for point exactly what it is that drives you crazy about where you are, what good points you think will be found where ever you are considering moving to and weigh each against the other. If you've got any excess baggage in your mind/heart involved with such a move, make sure you have it all worked through too. THen when you have these issues thought out and worked through make you decision with a clear heart and mind and go for what makes your socks go up and down then.

Big hugz, sis, and when you come to the ATL, we can hang out...more motivation, lol, huh. You can make it here lady...i came here with $30 in my pocket, and i'm a long way away from that $30, so i hope things work out for you to make that move. So far, i haven't wanted to leave this place...i came here from the cold, snow filled streets of IND, so i appreciate the warmth, the growth, the love of this country town trying so desperately hard to be a city.

I lived in Maryland for 30 years. When I left, it was awesome!!!!!! I don't regret that decision at all. Follow your heart girl!

absolutely...every damn day i think about getting the hell outta mapdot, ks...right about now i'd be all about somewhere tropical and warm!

Atlanta will be warmer, and there's awesome food. But it won't be at all like what you're used to, so give it a lot of thought first. I didn't really live there, but I was in Georgia on business for about two months, mostly in and near Atlanta.

Funny thing I noticed doing tourist stuff in Georgia. There are all these black kids working at the Confederate stuff. If I were a black kid, that's the last place I'd want to work. But I guess that they grew up there and don't think anything about it.

get out of my head :-) My two choices to get up, get out and keep moving are the A and LA. I want LA because I thrive in that kind of environment but ATL is much more reasonably priced!

Trust, if I had the stacks, I'd be gone! I'm over this DC Metro area! OVER it!

Girlfriend, let me tell you from personal experience. You can take the girl out of Baltimore, but you can't take Baltimore out of the girl. I know, I understand what you are talking about because I been there, done that. I moved away from here to New York state and I missed this place. You know you're gonna miss the smell of crabs being steamed in the supermarket, you're gonna miss being called "Hon" by a waitress, you're gonna miss Berger cookies. You're not gonna find anything like Lexington Market. You probably won't see some dude on the bus in the summer time trying to cool his ass down with a wet washcloth on his head. You're gonna miss the Arabs. You're even gonna miss feeling like you are driving in NASCAR on the beltway. You're gonna miss the unique accent, even the way people say "anythink" as if there really was a k at the end. You're gonna miss the way people save the spot they shoveled out with their lawn chairs. You're even gonna miss Marty frickin Bass.

But you just go ahead, learn for yourself.

I do understand completely, the need to start over. So if you live on the east side, just move to the west side!

That is so funny that you say that because I have thought that many times. As far as rent prices it depends on where you live.

Atlanta is wonderful. I've only been there once for a long weekend, but I was immediately enchanted.
