I am Not That Easily Fooled...Or Am I?

It was a bright, sunny day and I needed to go to the local mall to do a little shopping. At the time I drove a little black Ford Escort. Oh yeah, I was big time.

I arrive, park the car and proceed into the mall. About 2 ½ hours later I emerge with a pep in my step and bags in hand. I retrieve my keys from my purse and insert it into the lock and open my car door. I slide into the drivers seat and shut the door and as soon as the door shut it happened.

A strange uneasiness came over me suddenly. I began to look around the car to try and figure out what was wrong. I didn’t remember my car being this clean. Damn I’m good! I look on the passenger side seat and there it was. A white bowl shaped glass ceiling light bulb cover. Oh oh! This did not go on any of my lights on any of my ceilings. Oh hell!! This is not my car!!

I jumped out of the car so fast I stumbled and almost fell and broke my neck. I immediately looked around to see if anyone noticed I was sitting in the wrong car. Image you come out to your car and some random stranger is sitting in it. How the hell would you react? Talk about embarrassing.

My car was only 3 cars down from this one. Who the hell told this person with the exact same car as mine to park in the same aisle as I did?

I jumped in my car and sped off as fast as I could.

LOL. Too funny. I can't say this has ever happened to me, but I am sure our reactions would have been the same.

You are an impressive storyteller.

OMGosh I am so happy to read someone else has done this other than me. I done the same thing a few weeks ago in Fred's here in our town.

LOL. I have never done this either. But how the heck did the key work? Do all cars of the same model and color have the same key? LOL. I have always wondered about that when I have heard these stories.

Ok so wait... your key unlocked the WRONG car? I can't get past that!

I'm stuck on the key unlocking the wrong car, disturbing!

When I was younger, my friend's mom, who was an alcoholic, stumbled out of the bar, unlocked the car and couldn't get it started. It wasn't her car! Can you believe that two cars with THAT close of a key match would be parked in the same proximity--wait, yes you can. How embarrassing! You did lock their car back up for them, right?

Yeah, you should have left an anonymous note saying how clean the car was and nice light bulb cover.

Talk about shaking someone up!

Actually, my hubby (used to work in for a dealership) says that YES many of the same makes do have the same key. NO not ALL of em have the same keys, but there is a chunk of them that do. Considering the amount of cars sold, and the size of the country, it's very unlikely you would find a car that would be unlocked with your key.

But it does happen, LMAO!

LMAO!! That's hilarious, especially the part about you not remembering leaving your car that clean. HA!

First, how did you open the car door, with your key? Secondly, i know one time i stood in back of a car, steadily pushing my trunk opener and cussing what is wrong with this, then plunging my key into the trunk lock, and it still didn't open...then i notice the license plate. I was with my friend and we ran and laughed all the way to the car, too funny!

Apparently this happens a lot. And not only can you sometimes open someone else's car door with your keys, I'm told that often someone can get into your car with a blank key.

Tahts shocking that your keys also opened that car! I've tried to open up several cars in my time thinking they are mine, just did it the other day!

LMAO!!!!! That's too funny. I didn't think a key to one car would work on another! I would have been lauging my whole ass off if that happened to me!

LMAO!! Thanks for the laugh! I've tried to get into a car that looked like mine before but fortunately the door was locked.

I had a white ford escort and any key could open my car and drive it. I was rolling big time as well.

HA I wish I could have seen the look on your face!!!

It happens, my dear - it happens. Now I wonder, does my key open other cougars when I encounter them...hmmmm..

Their cars would be cleaner than mine, that's for sure.

Oh I would have DIED right there on the spot!!!

Hyterical!!!

I've never done this exactly, but I drive a black minivan which is a very popular model, and I keep a special bead necklace that my son made me on the rearview mirror, just so I don't make that very mistake!!

No kidding, this happened to me but in reverse not 3 weeks ago. I swear!!!
I was sitting in the passenger seat of our car (the kiddos in the back) while my husband ran into the store. Some old lady came over to the driver's side of our car and tried to get in. I had the doors locked and her key did not work, but the look on her face when she noticed me sitting in there was freaking priceless!!!

Reminds me of the time I was standing at the trunk of my car pressing the keyless entry and muttering out loud about why the damned trunk wouldn't open when it dawned on me...my car was blue, not green, my car was a Lincoln not a Mercury, and the man rushing toward me was about to knock my lights out...such a fun day...hope yours turned out better than mine, lol

If the key fit, and if the person was careless enough to park it near you, then I'm pretty sure that they were trying to give it to you. No court would convict you, Diva.

hahahahahah.... I dont know if I am suppose to laugh or not but that was hella funny to me

Something similar happened to me just a couple of weeks ago. I walked up to a car with my head down, thinking it was mine. I even grabbed the door handle before looking in and seeing A PERSON already sitting in the driver's seat! Talk about embarrassing.
