Irrational Fears

Hello everyone. I have an announcement to make. Is this mic on? Ok, here we go, my name is Tee aka Diva’s Thoughts and I have irrational fears. Yes, I know you think I am this wonderful, together person, (*snicker*) but I, my friends, have a couple of very irrational fears I must confess.

First, growing up, as a child M*A*S*H* was a popular TV show and it would come on at around 11:30 pm. (Shout out to Loretta Swift and Alan Alda) For some reason I would do my best to avoid this show or at least the beginning of it when the theme song would play. Why you ask? Because for some reason I found this theme song VERY unsettling. Ok, I was scared of the damn song, Ok????

If for some reason I fell asleep on the floor in front of the TV and woke up just in time to hear that theme song I would become totally unglued. You know what though, all these years growing up I thought I was the only person in the world that was afraid of a damn theme song but one of my close friends also informed me she was also afraid of the M*A*S*H* theme song! Imagine that! You know what that means? She’s as much of a freak as I am. Yeah “K” I’m talking about you! lol

Another fear I have is striking a match or “flicking a Bic”. For some reason lighters and matches scare the bejesus out of me. Maybe I’m afraid of getting burned, I don’t know.

The only things I know is keep that damn M*A*S*H* theme song and matches away from me! I’m serious.

Yeah, I know I'm a freak but I'm alright with that.

I'm afraid of the theme song from "Full House."

It's either the theme song, or Uncle Jessie.

I haven't quite figured it out yet.

for me it's the X Files theme song. Same story, I'd fall asleep to something else on TV and wake up to that theme song and be freaked. But isn't the theme song for MASH called Suicide is Painless? or something like that, so I think it is kinda eerie anyway.

Diva's Thoughts said...

Charmcitygirl - YES!! K told me that is the name of the theme song. That explains it! lol

I had a fear of that show because it was absolutely terrible as kid.

Snoresville!

Ha ha ha, I have to confess I don't know but when that show would come on I would change the channel not even listen to the theme song. Maybe because the implication of the show I don't know.

You are too cute!!!!!!

There were some classic TV theme songs in that era - and I can whistle most of 'em!

I'm still travelling but will be home in about 36 hours.

i can't really remember the MASH theme song. i do remember it sounding kinda dreaded though.

oh, i know a theme song that used to scare me - the theme to the sitcom soap. it sounds like something spooky is about to happen.

i, sadly, enjoyed playing with matches as a child.

I can't remember what the MASH theme song sounded like, but I hated the show so I stayed away from it all together.

I love the show WEEDS, but everytime the theme song comes on I complain about how much it sucks. I try to leave the room until it's over because it sucks that much.

TravelDiva said...

LOL on the mash theme song fear.

I'm scared of dogs....I don't know if that's irrational.

FYI - Posted pics of the trip on CITC!

TravelDiva said...

And I agree on that song from Nightmare on Elm Street.

I have a phobia of voicemail. Shush - I know - totally for no reason but I detest having to listen to voicemail.

Kiki, that song gets me too.. its scares me beyond words, that and the Jason one.. This is why I cannot watch scarey movies. They just give me the heebee jeebee's. Speaking of TV shows from our youth remember this show called V?

That show was never viewed by me. That snake scared this crap out of me. I don't do horror or thrillers. My heart can't take it!

lisa q. said...

Wow! Who knew there were so many people freaked out by TV theme songs? Haha...

No theme songs creep me out that I can think of, but scary movies? Ugh...can't watch 'em. Ever. Nope.

I'm sure we all have our share of irrational fears. I freak out when I see black cats! I have to spit 3 times. Why? I dunno, I just do!

Anonymous said...

HA! I have fear of the beeping noise that the emergency alert systems make even if I know it's a test. My body goes into fight or flight mode I swear. LOL

I know The Twilight Zone's theme song is freaky to me, though anything scary is freaky to me. I watched that as reruns growing up. MASH never seemed to bother me though.

minijonb said...

since we're sharing our feelings and all that, i have a fear of odd numbers.

ok, i feel better now - thanks!

I'm scared of cats. It's like they are silently judging and plotting against me.

You are so funny. I am not afraid of any song per se, but I do have crazy fears. Like Midgets. I am petrified of midgets.

CC Solomon said...

It was already said but that darn X-files theme song freaked me out and I loved the show! I used to rush to put it on mute. Also, couldn't stand Unsolved Mysteries, still can't. Still can't watch. I would fall asleep to Lifetime and wake up to that and be freaked out!

I am also afraid of matches. I guess I am afraid of burning my hands (something I almost did with matches at the tender age of two). If I can help it, I don't use them. I light candles with those long tipped lighter things with the safety switch.

Moe Wanchuk said...

I'm afraid of SpongeBob and my Wife. .....that's it!

Oh...and Charles Manson

oh yeah.....and girls that stare at me!

Renaissance Woman said...

Thanks for stopping by my site. So sad that you are afraid of the MASH song...I love MASH! But I am afraid of months (only at night). Does that help?

Trixie said...

Now I've got that damn mash theme song going through my head!

*lights cigarette*

Sandi McBride said...

Oh my Dear Diva...there are many of us out here who are afraid of that damned theme song...see, if it weren't for us bloggers, we'd think it was just us that's strange...I can even tell you which line it is that causes the most panic...but not now...not ever...because I think you know...
hugs
Sandi

My goodness, and here I thought my irrational fear of being murdered or falsely accused of a crime and sent to prison were just silly:)

You may have topped me:)

What exactly about the theme song scares you?

i love mash some of the best writing ever on tv

Like this wasn't funny enough to read (laughing WITH not AT), your commenters are hilarious!

In addition to the M.A.S.H theme song, I'm also scared of Art of Noise's "Moments in Love." My college roommate freshman year used to play it every night and it scared the bejesus out of me! I was embarassed to mention it to her though.

For some reason, whenever I'm walking outside and see mushrooms growing in the grass, it creeps me out. Don't know why. That's a weird one!

Nicole P said...

I am really afraid to light a match too.

That girl said...

I never really got into MASH. Not a good show at all.

laughing said...

I could understand if they were singing the words as the do in the MASH movie, but just the music shouldn't bother you since you didn't know about the words until we commented on it.

We had a dog that was terrified of certain game shows. She would hide under the bed cause she knew we were all about to get really loud.

Now for something that would really scare you--maybe mice got in your house while the fire damage was being repaired.

And for whover commented about being afraid of V, I heard that they will start the new series soon. The book is already out, but I haven't read it.

We are going to put you on Oprah or Montell! Lol

Not an irrational fear for me, quite the opposite actually. I LOVE the fricken theme song to the show Fraiser! lol Something about hearing: Tossed salads and scrambled eggs...wait. Um, never mind.

Miss Snarky Pants said...

If it makes you feel better/any LESS freaky [LOL] I don't like the theme songs from Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th...

One Man’s Opinion said...

What the hell? Okay, you said it was an irrational fear, but what the hell. The music is playing in my head right now and I am truly trying to get behind you on this, but what the hell.

Anonymous said...

Everyone has irrational fears. You would be surprised at some of the odd ones out there!

Anonymous said...

You freaky freak.

At least you'll never smoke!

Elisa @ Globetrotting in Heels said...

hey, look at the positive: if you are scared of matches and lighters there isn't much of a chance that you'll ever be a smoker. So what may seem like a blemish to your perfect self is instead something that will allow you to keep your health and good looks for years to come, or at least longer than all the smokers out there ;-)

Thank you for showing me that it is not JUST ME- I could not stand the Mash theme song either, just gotten used to lighting a match but still can't pop a cork out of a wine bottle or get those biscuits out of the little container...
