Would You Give Up Your Dream of a Big Wedding For Your Fiancé - Day 6

If you wanted to marry your significant other and you had your heart set on a big wedding with all the works and he/she wasn't really into such a display and really had their heart set on something on a much smaller scale would you scale back your plans or would you force the issue because it has always been your dream?

When I was planning my first wedding I had my heart set on the big elaborate event and luckily my fiancé was all for it as well. I'm not sure how I would have felt if he wanted something smaller. I know that I wouldn't have settled for a court house wedding that's for sure but I'd like to think that I would have compromised on some level but I just don't know.

When I plan my second marriage I now have my heart set on a much smaller event. I actually am hoping for a court house wedding this time. The only way I'd have a big shindig is if my fiancé really had his heart set on it. I would then give in because I wouldn't want to feel as if I was making him miss out on something.

It's funny, you'd think most guys would want a small event and not care about the particulars but I've met a lot of men that actually desire a big elaborate thing. Go figure.

What would you do in that situation? You you stick to your guns or compromise with your fiancé?

Well marriage is ALL about compromise...If you cant compromise on the wedding, then how will you compromise when the serious stuff hits the fan?

I am not too much on big weddings...Its a waste of money to me, thats money you could put into ur house and/or a nice honeymoon...You can do something nice but resonable...If I get married again...I want a simple beach wedding...Courthouse is so fast and rushed...

You got compromise. It isn't about the wedding day. It is about love and forever.

I am all about a classy Vegas wedding. I am too old for the big wedding. In my opinion after 35 that is a farce.

My hubby wanted big (still does) but I wanted small. REALLY small!

We got small. I just can't imagine spending that much on one day. I told him we were spending on vacations instead.

The first one should be big, but I wouldn't want to do that again. Now, that people seem a little wiser about spending money, I think it would be easier to talk someone into scaling it back a bit. ...or using the money for a great honeymoon.

I agree with the compromise thing... surely there is something that two could agree on... Im thinking my next wedding will be a Vegas Elvis Chapel kinda thing... ;o)

once everyone starts planning and they find out how much everything costs then small would be the option I'm sure. Especially if the man has to pay for it. I would compromise.

Hah, my honey and I just had this conversation last week. We both agree on the courthouse, or very small thing. We've both been married before, and this time around it's not about the dress or the production or the cost. We'd rather use that money for other things after the wedding!

so not the point of this post but you were married before?

Just telling it like it is said...

It's not about feeding a million people it is about starting out a life together...Maria Shriver wrote a book on she wiished that they had concentrated on making the marriage special IE the honeymoon...heck you could put a down payment on a house...it is a union that should be shared with close family and friends...just my humble opinion...but I don't like big sheesh foo foo things

I don't mind compromising either but this time around, I'd like a small intimate wedding (if I get married again). Even a beach wedding would be beautiful. I don't need anything elaborate, just intimate between me and my man and the family.

Well I had bigger problem than that, both of our parents wanted big elaborate wedding, lol. There was a point where we had to say, no more people, lol. Anna :)
