Teenage Parties

Last weekend I attended a friend's daughter's Sweet 16 birthday party. She threw the party in conjunction with another one of her girlfriends that was also having a birthday.

It was a cute little party. There were several young girls and boys in attendance. What I found very interesting though was that throughout the entire evening the kids stood in the middle of the dance floor and several times I noticed that the boys stood on one side of the floor while the girls stood on the other. I don't think they once intermingled enough to dance with each other.

I looked at one of my girlfriends that were there and said, "Look at them! Were we ever like that?"

Her answer "NO!"

I've been trying to remember back to the dark ages when I was their age and wondered if we were like that. Scared to interact and dance with one another. Too shy to really get too close to the opposite sex.

Maybe it was just my hot ass always wanting to get close to the cute boy at the dance then. Oh well.

Haha...I don't think I was ever scared to get close to them. My hot ass was right there with you girl. Although, looking back, it mighta been better if I'd have had enough sense to be scared to get close to them!

I bet you were like that. At a certain age we all were. That is the stereotypical high school dance shot.

I remember it being like that, girls on oneside and boys on the other!

Oh yes, I do recall these dances. I think I can hear Poison playing now actually. HA!

You're too funny. We were like that. As young girls we always stood on the side and prayed silently that someone cute would ask us to dance. Oh yeah, we also prayed that the sweaty, pimply boy wouldn't. Lots of praying going on at those functions :)

I don't know, our parties were exactly like that...boys on one side, girls on the other till one of the "Fast Girls" (okay, it was me) grabbed a guy and dragged him to the center of the dance floor...yeah hon, we are all those teenagers, lol!

LOL my friends and I were never like that. Boys and girls hung out with each other and became close friends from early middle school on.

Count yourself lucky. I chaperoned a middle school dance a few years ago and am still in need of therapy to get over what I saw. Seeing 6th graders grinding and humping each other is not a good thing.

Ha! Back in my day - the real dark ages, complete with dungeons, chains, chastity belts, the whole nine yards (probably some dragons loose outside the dance hall too I think) boys mostly all lined up along the wall on one side, girls on the other. I know because I held up my section of the wall dance after dance after dance! Even if someone had asked me to dance, I'd really have been terrified then cause I've always suffered from having two left feet!

Yep we were like that at school discos! Changed by the end of the night!

I can remember it being that way. By the end of the night we were mingling though!

Interesting because I remember pretty much every party I went to being almost exactly like that.

Of course, I didn't have a hot ass trying to get close to me. Probably because I wasn't cute.

I was never like that either. Especially at 16. I was tearing up the dance floor in middle school

Thats funny, but as a mother and when my boys hit adolescents I will be praying they stay on the other side of the room from attractive girls until they are 30!!!!

Yes I remember that. I also remember how the party or dance always ended too soon since it took us ages to ever get it started!

I think it was like that cuz there were parents around. Once the parents leave...Watch Out. I hate to say this, but I was, and my friends were, mansl*ts at 16. I'm curious to see how I'll be with my kids when they get that age. I have a feeling I won't be worried about my son.....but insanely protective of my daughter

I think we were all like that, well not me cause my hot ass would always ask a boy to dance or something so I know I wasn't like that, but I do remember that there were times when the girls would stand on one side and the boys would too because there were adults in the room, and once there were lights on no one dare move because all the good stuff happened in the dark. Ahhh the good old days, now things are just not the same.
