I Start Tomorrow

I was talking to my girl Crazy this evening. She has a 9 year old son and she was explaining to me that she had to help him with his school project. Apparently he has to create a dia...dia...dia something or other. I have no idea what the hell she was talking about?

Then she said that the "new math" he's doing is killing her. What is wrong with the old math? I'm sorry but I count, add, subtract and multiply the old way just fine thank you very much!

Do they still teach the Metric system in school these days? I remember my teachers in elementary school telling me that I had to learn this new metric system because eventually we here in the US were going to totally convert over. Uuummm, I'm still waiting.

Talking to my girl made me realize I am not smarter then a 5th grader. Damn!

I signed up for a tutor. All this shit is making my head hurt. His mother said he could start tomorrow. Wish me luck.

New Math? I've heard of that...what the heck is NEW math?

Isn't math basically the only thing NOT open to interpretation?!

HA HA HA, Don't feel bad. My son scored above average on state testing for math. So he is in charge of balancing my checkbook.

I feel your pain!!!!

Metric, schmetric -they were carping about that almost 50 years ago when I was in high school and I'm no closer to learning that today than I was then! And this freaking "new math" too -how many times are they going to invent a "new math" anyway? Seems like they said that when my oldest was in grade school, then again with each other kid and now with the grandkids too -each time it's a little different methodology -or so they say anyway. I've never yet found a new, improved and easy method for learning math though, have you?

Geez, even my 8 year old's maths is hard for me! I'm with you, what's wrong with OLD maths????

I can't do math to save my life - this after countless statistics courses to get my degree in Clinical Psych..go figure...

Haha...I remember that metric system line too. Funny how we never got there. Math is oh so over my head! If it weren't for my computer, I'm pretty sure I'd never get my damn checkbook balanced!

HA!!! You crack me up! Math scares the piss outta me. I had to get a tutor in College to pass some dumb required math class and I was THRILLED when I got a C-. It's still one of my main claims to fame!!! =)

Oh this is too funny. My 8 year olds math throws me off many times and I have to re-read what it is they are doing. I know my nephew taught me the "new" way to multiply. What was wrong with the old way that I was taught?

Been there, the dia dia dia-whatevers and the new math sucks! We just end up looking like idiots when they ask for help. Our school is actually doing a special program to teach parents the new math... now that I think of it, I think I missed it. Take Crazy out, she needs a break.

Don't feel bad. My daughter comes home with her math and I feel so bad because she is struggling and I am of no help.

Looking at her math book is like reading Chinese.

Yeah, what is it with you Americans and your disdain for the metric system? I've lived in the U.S. for 15 years now and am still waiting for you to convert!

LMBO! I totally feel you Diva :-) These kids have hella knowledge these days.

LOL. Too funny Diva.

I remember the metric thing, too. I believe the new plan is to have us on it by 2512. You don't want to rush into these things.

I am cracking up at "new math"...most of that stuff you don't EVER use.

I probably could win on that show either! lol

I know!! School is so much harder now a days. Back when I was in school it was a breeze. I wouldn't know where to begin if I had a kid and I had to help her with homework. Nightmare!!

Lailani Ali said...

This is why I tutor a 6 year old. No math!!!

I have no clue what was wrong with the old math but the new math sucks! (Probably because I don't get it and can't help my son with his homework!)

Good luck to you...I work in a high school and feel stupid on a regular basis. Hope that helps!

Yah, my kid is shit outta luck if she needs help with math nowdays. Even if I come up with the same answer, the correct answer... there are points marked off because it wasn't done the way they were taught.... Jeez.

I guess I'll just have to stick to writing her mythology papers.

I'm going to have to have my niece or nephew doing my financial paperwork when they get a little more older.

if it can't be done on a calculater then who needs it! haha, I remember having a calculous teacher who wouldn't let us use calculaters- something was always wrong with that...
