Women at Bars

I've always wondered what men think when they see women sitting at a bar alone? Do they pity her as a lonely outcast? Do they feel she's an easy party girl? Do they think she's bold for going out alone and go talk to her? What do men think?

Ladies, would you ever go to a bar on your own? If you have what was your experience like?

I've never done that because I've always been afraid for the safety aspect as well as the message that me sitting at a bar alone would send. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

What's your take when you see a woman alone at a bar?

I don't go to bars alone. One the safety aspect plus I go out to drink and be social. If I want to drink alone I can do that at home!

For safety reasons, like you, I would never go to a bar alone. I think most women go in groups now.

I think there should be some distinction between going out alone around happy hour and being alone after 9 or 10 pm.

Most women (or men) I see alone at bars have their noses glued to smartphones nowadays.

I generally go to bars with my friends, but I have no qualms going alone. I am a very social and friendly person and I can make friends anywhere I go - bars just make it easier.

I tended bar for so many years that I have no issues bellying up to a bar by myself. Like Karen, I am out going enough to make friends!

I don't see anything wrong with going to a bar alone, but I wouldn't do it. It is probably a great way to put yourself out there to meet people. I hate trying to get rid of a guy that I am not interested in. I am too nice to them & they never get it. It is easier when you are with other girls. You can say something a little nicer like you want to talk to your friend.

I would never go to a bar alone. I think men would pity me or think it's an open invitation to come up and harrass me.

I don't have a problem going places alone...well I didn't until I had five kids and now I can't even go to the bathroom alone. I do look back and wonder about how stupid I might have been as far as safety was concerned.

I have gone out alone...But it was places that I frequented so I knew people there so I didnt have to be concerned for my safety...

I go to pubs (as we call them in England) alone, but only to the ones in my town, because I know I can go into all of them and know at least one person. I normally wouldn't do it if I was in a different area, but if I was travelling alone (like I have done in the past) I would sit in the hotel bar and meet lots of cool people also alone, but that's a different scenario I'm sure than what you are talking about.

If I would have waited to go to a bar until I had someone to go with me, I would have had a very, very sober life over the past 30 plus years, that much is for sure! One nice thing though about living where I do -in a wee, itty-bitty little village out in the middle of nowhere -safety in the bar isn't usually a concern here although leaving and trying to get home -a whole different story!

I go to dinner and bars alone.

Single women have to get out. Especially single parents.

I usually go to the bars local. I may see ppl I know, or not. Usually no one bothers with me. Sometimes if it's dinner, the couple next to me will strike up a convo. Nothing creepy has ever happened to me. No one notices me. And when it comes to the guys that do annoy me, I pick up my cell phone or lie and say that I guess I got stood up and then I walk out. I don't usually get so drunk when I go out alone that I need to worry about safety as a concern.

The reason I prefer to go out alone is to ppl watch and listen to others convo's. I like that ppl wonder why I'm alone. Some ppl ask if I'm alone, other don't care. I think it's more and more accepted that women go out alone.

What I find weird is when I see two men sitting at a dinner table at a restaurant eating. If it was two dudes I think I would eat at the bar, otherwise it looks like they are on a date. Just saying.

What's your take on that Diva?

Shorty- I agree with you that two men sitting at a table together does look like they are on a date. lol Funny how that is a double standard because we don't think that about two women at a table together. Hmmmmm...

I applaud you and the other women that are able to go out on their own. I'm too much of a chicken to go to a bar alone.
