Vacation Layaway

How often do you take vacations during the year? I LOVE to travel so I try to get away as often as time allows. Sometimes, however, it is very difficult to get away.

Already this year I’ve gone on a few trips and plan to go to Ft. Lauderdale, FL next week.

I was talking to a friend this morning and he mentioned something about “Vacation Layaways”.

Now I’ve never heard of such. I mean when I want to go on a trip I just book it, pay for it then go. I’ve never heard of the concept of laying away your vacation. He was telling me that a woman he was involved with a little while ago had turned him on to the idea. You’d obviously have to book this through a travel agent but you’d decide where you want to go, contact the travel agent, make an initial deposit then begin making monthly payments to the agency until you’re all paid up. Interesting.

This definitely takes a lot of future planning. I probably wouldn’t book a trip in advance like that with some dude I’m just dating. He might piss me the hell off and then we’d be shit out of luck. I’d probably find it mandatory to have his ass kicked too. lol

Have any of you heard of this before? Would you consider something like that?

I supposed it could be a great way to go a vacation that you would otherwise not be able to afford.

I have never heard of this, but it's not a bad idea. I guess for people who are practical and not very impulsive, they could definitely take advantage of this. Me, not so much, I do everything spur of the moment!

I'm intrigued by this concept. It sounds good in theory, but what would you do if you ended up finding another place you'd rather go?? Could you switch funds over to the new place? I need more info!!

Trip layaway is not a bad concept but you have to have an agent with connections who can accommodate you during the case of emergency or change of plans. Its actually how I coordinate summer trainings for my staff
btw, LOL at the mandatory ass kick, I feel ya

I've never heard it referred to as a 'vacation layaway' before (lol) but I'm familiar with the concept. It works great for family reunions/vacations. My family cruises every year and payments begin in October.

This has been around for a long time, especially with BIG trips like cruises and the like. My best friend in high school and I thought we'd take a cruise during spring break my senior year. Put down deposits and made maybe two payments before reality struck that a part time job at Walgreens was just not going to pay for a cruise in 8 months...not even in 1979 dollars.

luckily we could get all our money back.

definitely an idea i should think about as i never seem to find the time, or the money, to get away...that way i would have to find the time...

I LOVE to vacation! Next week Mister & I are flying to the oh so exciting state of IDAHO! (yes, I know you're jealous) We're gonna kick it (w/o kids!) for a weekend of partying w/one of my BEST friends in the world. A weekend of partying and shit.

Vacation layaway, huh? Interesting.
