Are You A Captain Save 'Em?

This question applies to both men and women....Are You A Captain Save 'Em? You know what I mean. You pick a mate, consciously or unconsciously, that you feel the need to help, save or rescue.

If I am going to be completely honest here I have in the past picked men that needed someone to save them from themselves basically. They needed help and I want to help people that are close to me so we kinda gravitate to each other. I always have to make sure the people closest to me are OK.

I actually just came to this realization and I had an Ah HA! moment once I did. I looked back on all of my relationships and the majority of the ones in my adult life have been with men that needed saving. Of course there were some that didn't fall into that category but by and large most of them did.

Now that I know this about myself I can work on changing the type of guy I attract by not putting out that "save 'em" vibe.

Do you find yourself always trying to save the people closest to you?

I used to. Until I realized that it will never work and is too much work.

The Husband was the very first person I dated that did not NEED to be fixed.

I used to be. I finally realized that *I* had to change after I broke up with my last ex-boyfriend, who was always stoned and/or drunk. Took nearly a year but I now have a boyfriend who is emotionally healthy. The difference is night and day!

Sometimes, although when they got too needy I would come to my senses.

I can safely say that I do not have this problem. I don't believe in saving men. Such a waste of time.

I have been here many times...Until I realized that you cant change anyone, so if I cant love and accept them for who they are then I dont need to be with them. And if he cant help himself, then I shouldnt even try...He HAS to carry his own in ALL aspects...
